  • Thank you. A few more questions (i haven't made a cake for a while, so need to get back into practise, lol)
Which alphabet letter cutters do people use?
And how much sugarpaste is best to cover an 8" cake, i always have loads left when using 1kg, but too scared to use less incase it doesn't roll out properly.
    Thanks again

Any recommendations on who to use for Public liability insurance? I want it to cover me for markets, festivals, shops and personal customers? Any advice would be great. :)

Following on from above - I am expecting a baby in May, so it would just be for a bit of extra money until then and would have to stop once he arrives until we're settled!
So a few questions and would be most appreciative of any help
Would i have to register as a business or would a EHO visit and a food hygiene cert be enough?
What do you use to cover your cakes? I have been using regalice.
Can you recommend a good (cheap) website to buy sugarflair pastes, sugarpaste cutters, regalice from?
    Thanks so much

You definitely need to register with HMRC as a business self employed and if you are working currently you may need to check with employers about maternity pay. Some companies will not let you receive maternity pay and work at the same time!
Also you would need to inform tax credits of employment and approx earnings!

If you register with the Sugarcraft Guild, they offer insurance to their members, you have to pay to join the guild but I don't think its much though and I think their insurance rates are good compared to independent insurance companies.

Does that cover for markets as well though, because it seems that are a lot are just for one and not for all. I did this on another forum but I found the information on the actual site confusing. Perhaps I would be best to call them!

im not 100% sure, i think it is designed for home baking businesses, check out their website, i think there is a link and it explains who the insurer is and the policy details, i havent gone down this route yet but they were recommended to me by my sugarcraft tutor.
