Does that cover for markets as well though, because it seems that are a lot are just for one and not for all. I did this on another forum but I found the information on the actual site confusing. Perhaps I would be best to call them!

If you're aiming at Markets then the Market Traders Federation offer insurance which may be of use in other venues:

    http://www.nmtf.co.uk/

Also that website has an interactive search for markets in your area.

Thank you stardrops! It must of been your good luck because I got the booking :D

I dont believe in putting up prices for weddings so its still £2 a cupcake with any design (buttercream and sugarpaste roses) for 60 adults and 25 smaller cupcakes for kids at £1 each. Grand total of £145 for cakes and £15 delivery charge (venue is 20 miles away) Thats my biggest order to date and im very happy with that! :D

I'm finally making progress... I've received my registration forms from EHO (am a little concerned that they've not even mentioned a visit....), I'm booked on to a Business Link course this weekend, and I've got my first two commissions after taking cakes into work last week :j

Just need to register with HMRC, and arrange insurance (will go to the BSG).

Big thanks to all at this forum, or I don't think I would have taken these steps :T

Congratulations nat21luv, that's fantastic! I hope the little advice I could give helped a bit! Wish I could charge those prices for my cupcakes... I get told £1 a cupcake is too expensive sometimes!

I used to do deals when it came to prices, however I've now stopped that because my base prices are so low anyway. Most stalls who charge £1.50+ will have a 'box of 6 for £so & so' deal going on.

Packaging wise I've switched to white bakery boxes now, I had been using plastic cases & boxes with inserts but they work out quite expensive & a lot of people don't seem to use them on stalls.

Cakes that sell best... I find it really varies but my raspberry & chocolate ones always go quite quickly. I wouldn't like to suggest an amount to bake - it really depends on the footfall & your pricing. Better to underbake & sell out than bring lots of cakes home though I always think.

    Hi

I am just in the process of setting up a business selling cupcakes and wanted to ask about what prices you charge, if it isn't too cheeky! I was going to charge £1.20 per cupcake but all my family/friends think this is too much!!! Is it better that I lower my prices? I don't want to get this wrong I want to make a real go at this. Do you think you can just sell cupcakes or do you need to do other cakes or cookies also?

Can I also ask where is the cheapest place to buy boxes for cupcakes at the moment I buy them from a supermarket I think they are £2.25 for 2 boxes that hold 6 cakes, which obviously cuts down on the profit.

I still need to contact the council but am going to do it at the end of the week when my OH has fixed the kitchen floor tiles!!!
