probably:( i also need to be more organised and have something in the freezer so that if i dont have energy to cook etc I have something easy on hand:o

    LOL.

OK. Do you meal plan at all? I make a meal plan to get me totally a week ahead, and then into the next seven days provisionally....that way, say I buy..a cauliflower, I can plan two meals using it, not just use it up on consecutive days, or, after we have mussels I tend to have a leek or leek and potato soup which I use the left over mussel liquor. My plans are fluid, I can swap days, and sometimes I throw it up in the air and eat off menu :D but it really helps me plan shopping as much as eating. Meal planning in this way has saved me a lot of money, and helps me eat a varied, controlled diet.

Yes please bramble, that would be great. Haven't ever been overweight before having DS and am soooo confused about all the different diets etc. Thought calorie counting seemed the most straightforward!

I only want to loose another 3/4 - 1 stone so hopefully won't be dieting long term.

Haven't forgotten the links, just trying to find them, forgot i got a new laptop lol. They're coming though!!

OK...why is it going out of the window...is it unrealistic?

Remeber, meals planned for tuesdy can switch to wednesday...or friday...the important thing is to plan your spend, and for us also calories/nutrition over the duration of a week (or so). So....when making a lasagne, you could make two and freeze one...really doesn't take much more time, less than making it from scratch....then you now you have an emergeny meal...now you need to think what emergency meal you can have that's diet friendly.

For us, calamari is often a winner.

My absolute no brain. low effort meal is salmon (which I lightly pan fry, but foil wrapped in the oven would be better). The joy of my salmon mel is that with no thought and very little time I can have a healthy meal that's not diet unfriendly (despite the pan fry) on the table and get the kitchen cleaned, with sides from the store cupboard. The only thing I need to have ''planned'' is the salmon purchase. For other people this might be ...for example a stirfry. It has to be something you cn eat in almost ny mood nd its what I consider my ''most moveable feast'' reserved for the day I'm tired/grouchy/likely to tell dh to cook pizza or call a takeaway. Other things which might apear as this in my week are baked potato (I have it with yoghurt not butter/cheese) or baked sweet potato or pumkin/squash of various sorts. Poached eggs on spinach (for dh I'd add a muffin and perhaps a bechamel sauce), stewed tomatoes on toast..... its important to have some of these things that can be pushed in to the next week if you manage to cook all nights, or that can be made from ''scratching'' round in the kitchen.

If you don't plan diet options then when life happens (and lets face it, things do happen all te time, whether its being caught in a traffic jam, or a friend calling and keeping you on the phone for three hours about a wiked ex boyfriend)...thats when takeaway/crisps etc all fill a void.

Thank you for advice, its usually just when I've had a crap day at work get home for bout an hour then its football training for ds sometimes we dont get home till 8/8.30. but I know these are just excuses:o I just need to plan my time better:D we dont budget for takeaway yet somehow we keep buying them. I'm gonna start budgeting for 1 a month and see if that helps;)

    morning all

Can i put my penny in aswell :) Menu planning is probably the biggest cash/time saver idea i've made off this site, My must is a sack of spuds cost me around a £5 for 25LBS of spuds, then even the days things dont go to plan i can always throw some jacket spuds on, they would be cooked and on the table by the time a takeout would turn up.

Im also a fan of cooking twice, things like quorn cottage pie and veggie lasagne i always do double so i have something for DH if i fancy curry or stirfry.

food today is porridge for breckie, im at a friends for lunch and preying she remembers im on a diet, (she usually bakes the yummy stuff im advoiding)
Dinner is ratatouille with lovely crusty HM bread from said friend.

    Have a great day everyone!

P.S Dragon how you doing? you sleeping any better?

  • coco: coffee for breakfast hun is not enough and no good for your weightloss. i know i'm gonna sound like your mum now but breakfast really is the most important meal of the day cause your body has been asleep for about 8 hrs or so and u need to break its fast if u don't eat breakfast within half hour of u getting up u aren't kick starting you metabolism and it will still be going slow till u each so u won't be losing as much weight as what u could if u was eating breakie. i have loads recipes hun if theres any food in partical u like have u tried chicken cake its so yummy (more like a meat loaf)
hun draw a line under last week hun and start again remember why u want to do this and plan your meals, search google for new meals to try so u can look forward to each meal.

tori: i'm a fan of old style to and couldn't like without my menu plans

    lostinrates: good advice hun

i have been struggling alittle this week wanting to snack all the time and not choosing healthy snacks but having more than i should etc made slimming cakes but had about 5 or more. only got 3.5 to my first stone so i need to get back with it.
on plus side i did walk to work last night which took me a hour made sure it was brisk to.
    todays menu:
    breakfast: scrambled egg on toast
    lunch: breakfast omlette
tea: chicken kievs and chips (slimming world chips and kiev) and rice pudding to follow
    snacks:fruits and mullers
  • I have some scales at home but I am not sure of my exact height so I have decided to go to one of those machines in chemists that weigh you and measure your height so I can work out my BMI. I haven´t weighed myself for over a week so plan to do this one day this week and hopefully report a loss as I have been very good this week and walked a lot. I have found weighing foods and calorie counting a bit of an effort but it has really helped me to see what "regular" servings are. I was eating almost two average servings of breakfast cereal before and I find that even though i am eating less now, i.e. an average serving, I am feeling full about 10 minutes afterwards so an average serving is enough.
