LIR soup sounds great! but better if you took the Parsnip's out,i thought parsnip was just things you cooked to fill a plate but nobody ate :rotfl:

Have a good day everyone, and best of luck with the weighin Alexnikov

I love parsnips! Also sweet potatoes, yum yum. I made myself a few chunky chips from half a sweet potato last night and they were delicious!

Cheers tori :) I'm calling it a 2lb loss this week (it's actually a smidgen under that but I had quite damp hair so I'm sure that makes it 2lbs :rotfl: )

Well done everyone. I'm not doing too well here. I struggle with SAD and the current constant greyness is taking its toll. I'm hitting the comfort junk food in the evening at the moment. although I'm doing OK during the day ( mostly).

If I've lost anything it is on a diet of crisps, chocolate and alcohol :o

Ooh SAD is not good (speaking as another sufferer here!), I was actually better when we had the snow because at least it was bright when the sun was shining!

I hope your weigh in isn't as bad as you fear

It takes literally a few minutes to make a fresh tomato sauce. I think it would work out more expensive, but I also think it would be very much healthier and tastier!

Here is my super quick recipe, with notes if you have more time included! No quantities are included because its all variable on taste/numbers. Any left can be stored or chucked into a veg soup the next day

Chop some onion and put in a non stick pan with a dash of water. This softens the onions without needing oil. You could also omit water and use a tiny splash of Olive oil. (If time I also use celery nad carrot, this mix mkes a super base for a plethora of recipes and is a great way to boot vegentable variety intake. ;) )

When the onion is softened (for us we keep it quite fresh and al dente) add some chopped garlic...a clove, or three, depending on prefernace. Don't add before the onion is ready: burnt garlic is bitter. Then some roughly chopped tomatos, or a can if ou absolutely have to ...canned will give a deeper taste, fresh a lighter zingier one. You can add a oinch of suger or sweetener too. Then, if you have some whatever herbs are your reference...basil, thyme, oregano, or majoram are our favourites, and we mix them.

A splash of worcester sauce, or anchovy sauce can go in. Some capers can go in, A couple of chopped anchovies perhaps! Whatever yu have can add depth, but we like it light and frech tasting with none of these added as well.

The whole sauce can be made in about five minutes if you can stand and stir the onions on a high heat.

I swear I can get a quick pasta dish out as quickly as many microwave meals (I am a determined cook-from-scratch person): but I do think its hard to compete on price if also watching health/flavour. Frankly, over the long term, health is, within reason, worth expenditure.

Another pounds loss for me this week!!
    Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
    Debt payments 2012 £433.27
  • Dragon - 100 pounds between us is amazing!

I have to say the thing that works for me is home cooking everything as you then choose how much oil etc goes into a recipe. I used to buy a lot of prepared sauces but don't buy any now as my daughter has severe allergies in fact reading the labels made me realise what rubbish is in most food (although still hard to resist at times) but it does put you off e.g there is potato in skittles (yes seriously why?????) In fact I am quite envious of my daughter she is never going to become overweight as her diet is so restricted she does not have the luxury of selecting junk food!!
    Target weight:

    10 stone (1/1/2010 21 lbs to target)

    25 lbs lost 2009 :D
    6.5 lbs lost 2010
