I missed "My Big Fat Diet Show" so going to catch it on 4OD.
I am aching today from all the exercise I'm doing, still on the healthy wagon but don't feel as though I have lost anything yet.
Been having salads for lunches, the main meal for today is grilled sausage, swede and potato mash, corn on the cob and peas.0 -
Noodles Alfredo
8 oz. (about 4 cups) cooked egg noodles
1/2 cup butter
½ cup heavy cream
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup shredded Swiss cheese
salt and pepper to taste[/QUOTE]
Sounds delicious!
Some ideas:
1. Make a white sauce with low fat marge/flora butter substitute, flour and skimmed milk. Add the cheese to the sauce, this will give you a creamy sauce without using cream, use less swiss cheese, or Edam instead I think this is lower fat, still use the parmesan as it adds a lot of cheese flavour with only a little cheese, but again experiment with smaller quantities.
2.You can use egg yolk and skimmed milk mixed together and then add this to the hot drained pasta, the residual heat will cook the egg to thicken the sauce. You can then add the cheese, as above to reduce cals and fat.
3. You can get low fat fromage frais/yoghurt/creime fraich that you could mix in with 1 or 2 to make a bit more creamy.
Let us know how you get on!0 -
Could really do with some lunch ideas for work.....have got no access to anything where I can reheat food so ideas for alternatives to salads would be really appreciated0

Well done Dragon. That is fantastic.
I finally stood on the scales today and have got my starting weight of 10 stone. Considering doing the slim fast diet to kick start the weight loss, has anyone tried it, what are your thoughts, good bad indifferent???0 -
Sam, stay on that couch and away from the fridge!!!!!!
I watched the Big Fat Diet Show too, shocking how little you get for 100 cals in some foods!!! OH was laughing his head off at it, 'oh, another diet prog', but I did find it fascinating. And there was the big question: Do you want to save pounds in your wallet or pounds on your waist?' I think on MSE we are all conscious of moneysaving, but it probably does sabotage our attempts at dieting sometimes. I try to keep my grocery spending down where possible and NOT WASTE FOOD, why do I do this???
I actually refuse to make certain healthy dishes as I won't be able to use up x ingredient before it goes off - usually cos the pack size is too big. And don't get me started on those 2-week LBD diets that you see everywhere!! They all sound delicious, but there is usually a tiny quantity of smoked salmon/soft cheese/pak choi in ONE dish and then... no mention of it for the rest of the week!! So what do we do with the rest? Chuck it in the bin and move onto the next day's totally different menu and create more waste???
But there has to be a happy medium, and I need to stop worrying about every little bit of food I end up having to chuck. It can go either in the bin, where it won't do me any harm, or into my belly, where it will make me fat! whereas if I was a bit more flexible, I could eat more healthily. It would cost me a bit more but it would be so worth it.
I feel minging today, I weighed myself this morning out of curiosity and I wish I hadn't. 138.2lbs!!! That's practially ten stone, which is the heaviest I've ever been. My jeans and even my work skirts/dresses and all too tight atm and I am so annoyed at myself.
And breathe!Let's have a good day today fellow half-stoners!!
That really made me think about my diet. I have to be honest, I do watch all these diet shoes (Supersize v Superskinny) etc and came across My BIg Fat Diet show accidently so I had no expectations. I liked watching it. Made me think about when I go food shopping, I do get easily lured into impulse buying "Oh It's only for £x amount I will get it".
It's made me want to make a shopping list and not get lured into buying junk that I don't need or want.0 -

I used to keep Ryvita and small pots of paste and a jar of marmite in my drawer in a tub. I also had a stash of disposable knives to spread.
I sometimes took in wholemeal pitta breads filled with sliced turkey and salad which was nice.0 -
