how about growing some in pots, i always grow my own mix salad in a large window box i find if i buy it i end up throwing half a limp lettuce out, sprouting mung beans in a jam jar is easy and taste great, there are loads of veg that are quite happy in a container, be warned you will end up with seedlings in every window in the house,

I'd love to try this. Do you not have drainage problems though e.g. do they get waterlogged? You can't have a container with holes in the bottom on an indoor sill!

    Thanks for any advice.

I'm feeling quite  with myself tonight because although today has been overall good in terms of healthy eating, I had a really bad chocolate craving tonight which I gave in to. I ended up eating a Milky Way, 2 Breakaway Biscuits plus a 2 finger Kit Kat. It was definitely emotional eating - I was feeling stressed because the children played up for 2 hours after I put them to bed (DH works nights, so he's hardly ever around to help out at bedtime) plus we've had a lot of worry over the past three weeks as DH is probably (99% certain) going to be made redundant at the end of the month.

I'm going to try so hard not to be cross with myself when I wake up in the morning because that often happens after I have a chocolate binge. Oh well, tomorrow *will* be a good day :)

  • Aww Nicky - been there - felt like that - maybe have a nice big glass of water to "cleanse" ?? and onwards and upwards tomorrow. I am "cleansing" with a nice cup of tea - after a bit of an overindulgent binge I think a nice cup of tea makes you feel better and kind of psychologically flushed out (am I weird? lol!) - I found this quote on my tea bags - "There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of tea" - Bernard Paul Heroux
(PS - don't mean to belittle your worries though)

No - not weird - I think that a nice cup of tea solves many ills :) Funnily enough, when I read your earlier post I thought that it sounded a lot like how I've been this evening.

Youngest dd is back at school tomorrow, so I'm going to do some of my Davina DVD when I get back from the school run, exercise always makes me feel better and lifts my mood! Onwards and upwards...

Succumbed to a hot chocolate today :(

However, I watched that new Anna Robinson ( I think) show "My Big Fat Diet Show", opened my eyes ALOT to the junk I buy and then of course once I've bought it, having to eat it.

I think it's helped me to think twice next time I go food shopping

Sam, stay on that couch and away from the fridge!!!!!! :D

I watched the Big Fat Diet Show too, shocking how little you get for 100 cals in some foods!!! OH was laughing his head off at it, 'oh, another diet prog', but I did find it fascinating. And there was the big question: Do you want to save pounds in your wallet or pounds on your waist?' I think on MSE we are all conscious of moneysaving, but it probably does sabotage our attempts at dieting sometimes. I try to keep my grocery spending down where possible and NOT WASTE FOOD, why do I do this???

I actually refuse to make certain healthy dishes as I won't be able to use up x ingredient before it goes off - usually cos the pack size is too big. And don't get me started on those 2-week LBD diets that you see everywhere!! They all sound delicious, but there is usually a tiny quantity of smoked salmon/soft cheese/pak choi in ONE dish and then... no mention of it for the rest of the week!! So what do we do with the rest? Chuck it in the bin and move onto the next day's totally different menu and create more waste??? :(

But there has to be a happy medium, and I need to stop worrying about every little bit of food I end up having to chuck. It can go either in the bin, where it won't do me any harm, or into my belly, where it will make me fat! Whereas if I was a bit more flexible, I could eat more healthily. It would cost me a bit more but it would be so worth it.

I feel minging today, I weighed myself this morning out of curiosity and I wish I hadn't. 138.2lbs!!! That's practially ten stone, which is the heaviest I've ever been. My jeans and even my work skirts/dresses and all too tight atm and I am so annoyed at myself.

And breathe! :o Let's have a good day today fellow half-stoners!!

Its not a problem, get your pot and line the bottom with cotton wool then add a few crocks ( i use broken up polystyrene packing instead of crocks so its lighter), my salad box is in my kichen window i just bung it on the draining board so if i over water any excess water can run off, i did have a narrow tray it sat on, but somebody pinched it for something else, chilli's and peper's are really easy to grow.
I had an odd one with a mushroon kit that someone brought me i couldnt get them to grow indoor's, gave up and bunged the earth out over the lawn, as you can guess i ended up with mushroom's in the lawn.

Doesn't look like any of us will be at school/work for the rest of the week more due to ice then snow so hubby and i will walk the 12 miles round trip to the big town to get some bits and bobs for us and some of our elderly neighbours, im having my first week weigh in tomorrow so at least the walking will help.

Be good while im gone :rotfl:remember the old saying a moment past the lips is an inch on the hips
    Have a good day
