  • Hi all. It's snowing here in northants. Just had to do the school run in it  managed to stay on my feet. Much safer than using the car and quicker too!

TARA and MUMOFGIRLS, i watched the big fat diet show last night as well, and what an eye opener it was too! But what a fab idea to put everything into 100 cal portions, would mean you know exactly how much everything weighed and would make life sooo much easier ( for us lazy people anyway, who can't be bothered to weigh and calorie count ) they would get my vote.

I also watched 'this morning' yesterday, and they had a lady who's heart age was 69 and she was only 49 , scary! she loved toast and butter and lots of it. When they put a years worth together to show how much she ate in a year she nearly had a heart attack. Does make you think twice before you put things in your mouth.

Anyway, day 2 went fairly well, apart from succumbing to 2 extra slices of tiger bread..Mmmm...not going to buy that again as I just can't resist...I can smell and taste it now...thankfully it's all gone!

Enjoy the snow - catch up with you all later.
    xx

Anyone here an advocate of herbal teas? I'm on my 4th cup of tea (since 7.30am :D) and now on a Nettle; trying to give the green tea a break, if not just for an hour. Can anyone tell me if this is good for me? I can only imagine so as there is little caffeine in them?
I missed this programme - will it be online??

Hi, I got weighed yesterday and was 95.9kg which is 15 stone, 1 1/4 lbs. Its a lot but I had estimated that I maybe around 15-7 after my christmas excess so was quite pleased. I am now aiming for a maximum weight of 14-8 by the end of the month.
I stuck to my clories really well until the evening when (to console myself that my period came) I had 8 lindt belgian chocolates and a bag (largish!!) of peanuts!!
Oh well, nothing I can do about it. Had my milky coffee, waitrose low fat chicken curry and rice, cucumber and tomato and bread. Shoudn't really have had it but it was out of date and needed eating. Total so far of 800, so 700 left. Plan for tea is pork steaks with veg and possibly a little roast potato.
Not done any structured exercise today but the walk up the steep snowy hill to school was good, and I'll be doing it again in a couple of hours.
I have almost finished taking down the christmas decorations and getting them away. The front room is so light with the tree down (it was in the window) and the snow outside.
Hope everyones day is going well.

I watched the diet programme too - bits of it were quite interesting but I got a bit ranty watching it :o Putting aside the fact that I think aiming for 7lbs in 2 weeks is pushing it, are people really that dim that they don't realise that going on a diet (especially a 1200 cal limit one) is going to involve either completely stopping eating cake/choc/biscuits etc, or that they'll have to be a rationed treat? As for that drippy woman who was eating 5 bars of choc a day and then wondering why she was overweight

    Ok, I'll stop being a !!!!! now!! :o

I've been looking into swimming memberships at the local leisure centre and I can get a monthly pass for £12.50 :T So once I've managed to track down a big enough swimming costume I'll sign up and get swimming!

I liked the look of Matt Dawson's turkey korma, might try making that if I can get the recipe online. Does curry without Greek yog in it freeze ok?

Alexnikov, I agree with you on the 1200 cal diet, it is daft. Still, the principle of calorie counting is a sound one and was very illuminating to see what 100 cals amounts to, the quarter of a cupcake and the sliver of pork pie were tiny!!

I was also dismayed to see how few of them could cook, especially the older ones. I always assume that ladies over (say) 45 would have been brought up learning how to cook and it's only my useless generation that has grown up with 'ding dinners' and no idea about cookery.

It was very interesting the way they were forced to make decisions about what food they would eat and prioritised accordingly, sacrificed a food treat so they could have a glass of wine etc. I just wish someone would bring me to that supermarket to do my shopping, like would be sooo easy! I guess I'll have to use my digital scales more often. :o

That woman was eating 250kg of chocolate a year, that's almost 5kg (or 77 Mars Bars) a WEEK!!!!!!!   The shots of her shovelling chocolate into her mouth constantly made me almost go off the stuff. :rotfl:

    Almost eh? :D

The pork pie thing shocked me, as did the ridiculous amounts of calories in those lunches  I was working on the principles that the wraps I occasionally have are about 300-350 cals, so I was a bit shocked to see that Waitrose one at 600+ cals! Must be all the cheese I suppose.

I'm not entirely sure how they were working out the cals in some of those suggested meals as well - 2 slices of normal bread can be about 200 cals so I've no idea how they were saying that a sausage butty can be 250ish in total.

And that woman making soup :rotfl: It's the easiest thing in the world to make!!

I like Anna Richardson as a presenter though so I'll be watching the rest of the series. Might get some new ideas :)

Hi Andrea, welcome to the gang!
