walked to station for work today, it takes half an hour! so thats an hour of walking in total everyday - is that enough exercise?

If it is a fairly brisk walk, then I think it is a good amount of exercise. I walk to work (20 mins each way), unless it raining, and then I take the dog out for at least 2 walks a day, usually for around half an hour each time but at the weekends I walk the dog for over an hour, sometimes even longer and try and walk up a big hill to burn more calories. The vet told me my dog is slightly overweight so I am trying to fit in longer walks midweek for her sake as well as mine!

Yes well on the way there it's brisk - i worry i'm going to miss the train! I walk the dog in the evenings in the summer and take him for at least an hour on the weekends.

I havent a clue but i have it in my head that a body an only metabolize (sp?) 1.5 LBS of fat a week with out medical intervention (proper doc diet pills) and any weight loss over is fluid, but that could be a crock as ive read too many diet books over the years so who knows...which make this whole post pointless :)

how did the job interview go coco?

My 2 mile run almost killed me which considering this time last year i was running 7 miles almost daily i could kick myself for getting so unfit.
I have also remembered the downside of loosing weight as i strugged to get into a sports bra this morning,im pear shaped so only a 36C as it is but they are always the first to go so i will soon be back to a 34B and chicken fillets, looking on the brightside hubby can buy me some new underwear

1.5lbs a week was about my average weekly loss Feb to October last year, but then again I'd read that about 7lbs a month the fastest "safe" weight loss and was targeting my calorie intake accordingly.
I have a friend who has been on one of these liquid vegatable only "diets". It's difficult to stick to, rather extreme in my view, not really a balanced diet at all but is giving her between 7lbs and a whole stone of weight loss a month. There must be more going on there than water loss above 1.5lbs a month.
Either way I think an average 1.5lbs a week target is easier to acheive, keep up and is arguably safer.

AIUI on average, 3500 calories equals a pound of fat. So, a pound and a half loss would be exercising or ''undereating'' by 5250 kcals a week. Thats significant. Its also why losing weight is quicker if you have more to lose (moving when heavier uses more calories.).

Its possible to lose more fat a week, but how wise that is, and how easy depends on ''where you are at'' IME. I also find its uncommon for me to lose in small regular amounts consistantly, it usually hovers then drops a bit for while...so while the ''maths'' is helpful, knowing our own bodies usually confounds it to some degree...

I'm really struggling with motivation. I know, we're only a couple of days in, but it's soooooooooooooo cold up here, I just want to eat. Am about to go make Quorn Chilli for dinner, but will make too much so I can put some away for work (we have a microwave there). That should be hot and filling, but the problem is being organised so I don't eat carp just 'cos I'm hungry and cold. Sorry for the moan. Just putting that down made me see sense and helped me give myself a talking to!

I totally understand this and feel much the same. All I can say is to eat HOT food, make the chilli hottish, both in spice and temperature. I also find a steady contant flow of hot drinks helps, as does keeping as busy as possible...it keeps one warmer. Dressing sensibly etc, is also important.

I have been feeling the cold as I never have before, last night I was almost in tears because of it, and it certainly doesn't help! But so be it :(

OMG AdrianHi you are right, there are sooo many new members!! Which is fab :D, but apologies if I can't keep up lol!

So after the shock of this morning, my new plan of attack is:

Decent breakfast every day i.e. porridge, boiled egg, muesli etc.
Lots more veggies - I will be devouring recipe books to find inspiration!!
Make my packed lunches more interesting
    No snacking!!!
Cut waaay down on alcohol in Jan - I am allowing myself 2 nights and that's it
One day a week I can eat whatever I want - haven't decided which day yet
At least 2 hours walking every single day

I am also challenging myself to do 30,000 squats in 2010 (lol) - this is an average of almost 100 per day and will allow for some days off!

I am giving myself till the end of 2010 to lose at least a stone and anything I can't fit into by then is going on eBay!!! I am so fed up.

That's it for now, will think some more and get back to y'all.
