hello? can i visit? i'm usually over in the sewing thread, or Old Style, but i've a question that i hope someone here can answer.

i sew (mostly stuffies and patchwork), and embroider too. But a friend has got me into the idea of XSticth. And i'm liking it a lot :D. I've bought the xstitch magazine with the Japanese Doll kit attached, and have got all excited :o.

I'm going on holiday abroad soon, and will take some stitching with me to do there, but after seeing the DMC thread cutter pendant in a craft store today and seeing that it says on the wrapper it's 'airplane safe', i've been thinking... does anyone have any recent-ish experience of sewing on a plane? or is it banned? :naughty: even if the cutter is safe (direct.gov now say blunt scissors under 3cm are ok), how about the needle?

thanks for any advice. oh, and i'm totally overwhealmed by the size and scope of your projects - they are amazing!

    Hi,

I took my sewing with me when I flew to America. I took a highlighter pen that had a thread cutter on the end of it (that came free with a cross stitch magazine) and a couple of needles. Had no problems at all.

Good luck with your cross stitching and have a fab holiday :)

    Please Help, ladies

SewandSo have let me down and I'm really annoyed.

On Sunday they had a DMC ready to stitch bumble bee rattle, which I ordered for my soon to be nephew. And now they are saying its out of stock and discontinued so can't get me one. I've already ordered the threads to do a bumble bee alphabet initial when I know his name and was all organised and ready to go.

Can anyone recommend where I can get the rattle from. I've tried google, but I never have much luck when I try to search for something and so far have only found the cuddly bee which has a satchel to stitch and I don't think it is big enough.

Please help me as everything else seems too girly.

    Thanks

    hi Harley,

I hate it when that happens. just looked on superstitcher.com and it looks like DMC are discontinuing all their old range so i guess its being replaced by the satchel.

is it worth ringing your local hobbycraft i know mine used to stock then.

is a tigger with bib any good??

    or a lion?

or this gorgeous bear with a frame?

Oh what a disappointment. What about stitching on one of those aida babies' bibs and dressing up a big teddy bear with it ?

  • Harley, just had a brainwave....... that was recommended to me on this thread.

Why not get a tuck cushion - a lovely large space to put your design. PLUS (in my opinion) something baby would get more use out of as they could have it in bed as they get older whereaas cute/ cuddly seem to get lost in the bottom of the toy box.

you could always (somehow?) attach bells inside or something to make it noisy.

    OMG, ladies you are fab.

Love the lion Chicky, I'm just going to go through my magazines to see if there is a better alphabet before I list them on ebay later (baby permitting).

Also love the tuck cushion but think that could be a bit more girly so I'm going to get it for [STRIKE]me [/STRIKE]Kezia instead.

Erics Mum, I did a bib once before for a friend of mine and swore I would never do one again. Even Kezia doesn't have one. The stitching had to be done on a bit of a pocket and trying to stitch down the bottom close to the seam was nearly impossible.

thank you again. off to my magazines before K starts shouting again

    Hello!
You sure can visit us here! ;)

Hmm I've not tried it myself, but have seen somewhere to check with the airline that you are fliying with.

I have the clover one myself and it works a treat, I tend to loop the chain I have around the wrist that I hold my loop with as it's easier to use than round my neck.

    Good luck

    Kerry

Ah, thank you for the nice welcome! Thanks for the tip - the clover one is really pretty, but grr it's even more expensive! but i know i'd use it as i'm rarely without needle and thread for some-project-or-other.

I went abroad on a plane recently and was fine taking one needle on board. I packed another in the hold just in case something happened to that one but there were no problems with the one I kept with me on the flight.

thank you for the great tip - having a spare is a really good idea, but not one i'd thought of!
