Have been a good girl and spent the day tidying up and cleaning and making a scrummy chicken and roast veg tea. Am making carrot and butternut squash soup tonight then going to settle down to stitching.

mmmm your soup sounds nice - can you share the recipe ? I have a butternut squash in my fridge that needs using up.

As much as I would like to sit and stay in the warm today stitching my row of cats, I must try to get into the office today. I travel by public transport and can't work out whether anything is running yet.

I feel sorry for all those stuck at various airports and whose holiday plans are ruined but better safe than sorry. I suppose the frustration comes from lack of/misinformation and the stupid rules our insurance companies enforce - you must turn up at the airport *just in case* your flight leaves to qualify for an insurance payout.

oh well. time to try the expedition to work !!

Lots of you are recommending a clip frame, but I'm not sure what it is exactly. Is this it ?:

I'm getting fed up with the traditional hoop and want something that gives me a more even tension so I can make smoother stitches.

    Thanks as always

Hope the following helps, it's what I gave Charliec45 when they had trouble with Flickr:

    1) Go to the picture you want to show us click the 'Share This' button on the top left of the picture, this will show you a number of options and the one you need is called 'Grab the HTML/BBCode', Tick the button for BBCode and it'll convert the code to what you need.
    2) Copy the text in the box and paste it into a new post on MSE and it should have everything you need to insert the image into your post. You can check this by clicking Preview Message.

Let me know if you have any problems and I can get some screenshots together for you.

Bah, the email says I have to go

Let's see if I can get out of my carpark!
  • Had to get in to work today despite the snow as we are going out for Christmas lunch and I wasn't missing that. H2b dropped me off as my car is an automatic and totally rubbish on ice, unfortunately I live the furthest from the office which is in the middle of nowhere in a converted barn, lovely in the summer but not great in the winter.

No stitching done last night and obviously none will be done at lunchtime, but should manage a couple of hours this evening. Just the veil to be backstitched and then the names and date and I'm done, not sure I can do it in four days though as I'm working right up until midnight on Christmas Eve.

    Hi everyone,
Just popping in quickly to say hello. I've hurt my back yet again. Lost count of how many times it's done this so far this year. Trying to get to sleep last night was a nightmare. I want to go out for a walk and see if that will help, but I'm terrified of falling on the ice and breaking something!
Anyway, yesterday I started a small cross stitch & bead kit. It's really lovely & sort of festive. I couldn't put it down yesterday. Stitched for ages (also didn't help my back!) and I'm pleased with my progress so far. Will post a pic later. Time for Nurofen & a stretch...

I was also out at my works Xmas lunch yesterday. I got on a bus to go home at about 4pm. An hour later we'd travelled approximately 400 yards. The driver's radio was telling us that it would take 4 hours to get to where I live....so I gave up, got off and hoofed it! 3.5 miles in the snow took me just over an hour - would have been much less but I live at the top of a hill!

    My legs ached this morning:rotfl:

I don't think I'll be in the office much longer today though - we're promised a huge amount of snow tonight so i think I might slope off early. I'm hoping the post will have got through with my order from Sew and Sew - see! Tenuous reference to cross stitch! :D

I think the ladies mean this one http://www.artsanddesigns.com/cgi-bin/viewDetails.pl?catnumber=1970532039 If you get one Louise recommends using something (tissue?) to put between the clip and your fabric to stop your stitches getting marked/crushed.

I personally have a couple of these type http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ran997-0.html You clip the edges of your fabric to the frame each side, scroll the side bars to get your tension then tighten the nuts. Once your fabric is on the frame you don't have to take it off until you have completely finished the design. If you want to move to a part of the fabric that's scrolled just undo the nuts, scroll the bars and retighten when you have your fabric where you want it.

Admittedly they can be quite big and I personally think you need to be able to lean the frame on something because just holding it by hand gives me awful cramp. I currently use a small height adjustable table but for xmas I have one of these on the way http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ran882-0.html I have only tested it out for height so far but can't wait to get my hands on it full time :D
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
