So, silver, dark blue, paler blue (not shown) or wood? (or something different-need to go shopping if so!)
Wood, without a doubt
Only other colour besides that I would suggest would be red. But the 'tree = wood' link is a good one and it's a warm wood which goes well.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. i'm having my own personal nightmare about the OH's xmas party friday night. it's in a post hotel. we've been there before and it's soo lovely. but now i'm fat and frumpy and going through a total nearly-30-mid-life-crisis! have bought 2 dresses, will have to return 1, need a strapless bra  which i hate and am sure my hair is so long, straight and unkept that i look like the Adam's Family's Cousin It. grumble, grumble, grumble
french nots - can i say that i sometimes cheat?when it just keeps going back down the hole, instead of doing it properly i push the needle down one aidea strand along. that seems to 'catch' it on the top fine.
As for my hair, I tried two different curling tongs, but not sure it's going to work, which is a shame as my hair at the back is quite long, if it doesn't I will be putting my hair up in a twist with a butterfly clip
Oh I do that too with French Knots, if I can get away with it.Ruth_honey wrote: »I think I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the Balloon Girl cross stitch I stitched several months ago still had some grid marks on it. Weirdly, they all came out on the main stitching, but in the balloon, you can see them. It's glaringly obvious to me & DH said he could see them too. You can't so much on the pic, though.
So I thought giving it another wash would sort it out. I've got it in the bath soaking in warm water and baby shampoo, but I think it's gonna take more than that. I know some of you have put stitching in the washing machine before, so I was wondering what setting to put it on. The threads are Anchor, so I'm sure they'll be fine, but will wash at 30C anyway. Should I use a delicate cycle??? Book says that's a 45 min cycle (wash, rinse, anti crease or draining cycle-so no spinning, right?) I'm a bit clueless when it comes to our washing machine. I only learnt the 'wool' setting this year! LOL! Should I put it inside a bra bag or pillowcase too? Can I chuck in a white t shirt to wash at the same time (hate using a wash for one thing! Such a waste...) and is Ariel actilift gel ok to use. I have powder too, but washing on 30C, I'm not sure I trust it to rinse out properly.
Sorry for all the questions. Scared!!!
Also the wood frame makes the tree stand out more for me.
I did do some stitching last night, but did it a bit wrong, so had to unpick a bit :mad:0 -
hi sorry i've no time to read any further, but had to reply to ruth and HAVE to get to work on time today!Ruth_honey wrote: »Ok, we'll have a quiet afternoon stitching (or wrapping presents!
) just for you...any excuse not to sort out the chaos in the spare room.
And that recipe sounds ideal for my friend who is intolerant to so many things! Share away...
How about wearing a normal bra and having a cardigan or wrap to cover the straps? That's what I did with a strapless dress I've got. Don't trust strapless bras to hold up my bangers, so rather feel secure and chuck a cardi on top. Covers up the top of my arms too.
As for the hair, can you twist it up and clip it? That always worked for me & looked good especially when a bit messy. Easy to sort if it starts coming loose too. Can't remember what the clips are called...claw clips, maybe? I'm sure you'll look great & have a lovely time.
Edited to add a lil pic of my strapless dress & cardi. Can't tell it's strapless & you can buy plenty of 'dressier' cover ups at this time of year.
Hi Ruth, thanks for the ideas... i think i'll wear a cardi thing with drapy bits my mum bought me last xmas. i noticed the dress i'm keeping (1/2 the price of the other one) has little loops to attach thin straps that were dangling from the lable. BUT they are thinner than any bra strap i've ever seen, and kinda come from below the top of the dress by an inch so just look like a bra anyway. VERY ODD. SO, i'll wear normal nice bra, attach these straps for security and wear that cardi thing. job done. THANKS RUTH!! :T
and i'll look up that recipie and post later - remind me if i forget please!

oh, i didnt get any stitching done yesterday but did iron on the visline to the card pieces i'd done. AND made a huge inroad into the puppy cushion i want to make my OH for xmas (quilt techniques, including some new scary ones!).

i'm kinda stuck on what to stitch next... expand the xma cards for other people but run the risk of not finishing? make a start on xmas for next year! or start a general one for me?Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. I love the image I got from the post about the cats sitting on top of a punching bag. Aren't cats the funniest creatures? Has anyone noticed that when they are naughty they look even more adorable so instead of telling them off you just think 'awwwwww'. I discovered yesterday that my cat likes chips. I caught him trying to pinch one off my lap but he was caught in the act. Sneaky devil. I have good news - I finished the rose. It is a bit dirty so I'll have to wash it and then frame it and then I can post it. It might not reach my aunt by Xmas but her birthday is in January so it should make it for that. I'll post picks as soon as I can grab five minutes to myself. Busy week.#19 Save £12K in 2019 challenge. Target = £10,000. Progress = £1136.09/10,000 (11.36%)
