Thanks Flat Eric. i did for a while feel silly at being so upset. but my other half is very angry in anticipation (!) and now it seems my dad thinks she's being odd too. wow. wonders never cease. she's never been that stable, suffering what some of us think is a split personality disorder of some kind as she'll get quite angry for no real reason then next day not remember anything about it. quite honestly it's a wonder i'm so adjusted! ;)
really appreciated the hug, odd as it may sound. bless you! :grouphug:

Try to agree a fixed rate of repayment and stick to it, then tell her that you are keeping your end of the agreement and she has no cause for complaint. I know it's hard but if the agreement is discussed then it's much easier to point out when you are sticking to your end of it.

thanks Elliep, you really do sound like you understand. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
Know what? how stupid is this... but i hadnt even thought about repaying her in installements over a period of time. how dim. :o:o:o thanks also Thifty. if i repaid her monthly it would clear quicker and not be a burden around my neck, and more importantly as you said it'd give me leverage to keep her from moaning too much. i'd just have to keep the bank slips to prove it sadly. gee, anyone would think this site exists to offer help and support with money worries! lol! :money::rotfl: :T thank you! (hope you're out from under that blanket now?) (or back under it saving on heating bills?!)

Ruth Honey - that sounds so lovey. do you have photos? :) i hope you feel better soon.
could you let me know the details for this stitching shop please? we've been planning for nearly a year to visit that area for my 30th in Jan with friends. (inscert grumbles about mum moaning about it and the cost, especially as birthdays aren't important after you're 13.). actually, i am already worring about the cost but my other half aparently 'has it covered'. humm...

Caz - what a lovely thing! puppies for christmas!:)

:grouphug: hugs for everyone who wants or needs them. i'm feeling better, thanks mostly to stitching, and you lot have helped so much. i'm not great, but not in the pits of despair like the other day. so, nah, you're all getting hugged whether you like it or not. :grouphug:

I'm glad that I could be of help. It's a difficult situation that you're in (and I know) but it really is a good idea to talk about it in advance so that you can all know where you stand and get it paid back as quick as possible.
I'm back under the blanket now but this time it's my choice to keep the heating at a level that it comfortable with a blanket and I can keep my hands out without my fingers turning into ice cubes.

Do you want the details for Wye, or Sew & So? Sorry-brain a bit foggy today. And birthdays are very important after you turn 13. I made a big deal of my 30th earlier this year. :D

Still feeling very rubbish today. Wish I had someone to look after me all day, but having to make up my own Lemsips and hide under the duvet feeling sorry for myself. :(

I had a spreadsheet that I kept track of the monthly spend to my mum, when I owed her money, this showed how much was left and I could update it with any changes to see what was left. I might still have a copy if that helps?

I was good tonight I put the laptop down early and did stitching from 7:30 to 10:00 ish, so have done a good portion tonight. Am hoping for the same for tomorrow and then I might be on to the outer boarder which means I'm on the way to getting this one finished.

I have the same. Well actually my Mum has a spreadsheet of what she thinks I've paid her. Se sends it to me once a year so I can confirm that I agree I've paid what she thinks I have and we can both see what is outstanding and the interest rates etc. Before anyone thinks my Mum is mean for charging me interest she loaned me a LOT of money for my house and is charging a lot less in interest than she could be earning if she had that ammount in a decent savings account.
Having the spreadsheet just means that we both know where we stand and there can't be any arguments later.
  • Does anyone know the answer to my question below? Do I have the right number of 'strands' for two strand metallic?
    Help!

I have a question about Medeira Metallic no. 10 threads. :o I am trying to stitch the snowflake charts from The World of Cross-Stitching Issue 119 and it says two strands, but for the life of me I can't see the 'strands' from the metallic thread. I've taken what I thought was 2 strands, working on the usual 6 strands to a bit of thread, but I've ended up with 4 'strands' of gold instead.

Does anyone know if this is right or wrong? I don't want to run out of thread...
