EDIT: hi everyone, dont bother reading what's below. i think i just needed to let it all out. maybe if i leave it here and come back later and read over it it'll all seem silly. i hope so. sorry for taking over the board.
i had a half great and half blurgh wknd. we're in the process of buying a house, and keeping our current one to rent out, and we just found out there's issues wiht the electrics. the vendor should sort it but the cost might come off the asking price which means we'd need to find 2K upfront to have the work done. we're already borrowing from family - which is a nightmare. 3K from my parents. the other day mum said very insultingly "i hope you dont take our money and buy all new ugly furniture." a) that money was offered unconditionally for fees, so no. b) i'm the most frugal in the family so why would i buy new if i didnt really need to, so no. and c) if i liked it it wouldnt be ugly to me, so again no.
now she's saying the 10 year loan (repayment date is suposed to be 2021! or earlier if we sell the rental) is fine as long as we dont "go silly and spend money on things she doesnt like". well she doesnt like dogs, friends or holidays. the loan would be tied up in the house for at least a few years so if we can scrape enough together to get the longed for dog then why can't we. that's one of the reasons for moving afterall!!
sorry for going on. all this just made me sit and stop and stair at the cieling yesterday. i can't do this with her, but can't do it without her. so i'm thinking i'll take her money, honeslty it'd be the most she's ever done for me, and save furioulsy and bite my tounge till i can pay her back asap. luckly i was brave enough to tell my OH how i was feeling, that i was spiraling out on my way to meltdown, he actually suggested that although i couldnt do any jobs that needed to be done i could do some Xstitch towards xmas. productive and calming. he was right. i've now nearly finished his stag card. i'm not at work today, i couldnt face it. work is so stressful at the moment too - my line manager is missing i think he's been suspended or sacked, and management is just ignoring that he even existed! yes he was a bully and an idiot, but he was the only one fighting for me not to be made redundant in 3 months time. so now that's even more likely. which means i'd need mum's money even more.
sorry everyone.
Oh hugs 23rdspiral. Its very frustrating and upsetting when family members offer to/ lend money but then take umbrage at you simply living your life - i.e. going out for the occasional meal / taking a holiday - getting your dog. grrr. millions of hugs coming your way :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I would love to do a (supermarket sweep) trolley dash in the sew and so shop :rotfl:
Their shop is tiny! I didn't even bother going in there this visit. The warehouse however would be great fun!!!kezbabybabe wrote: »My stitching day went well yesterday, I also received my (£34 with postage) from Frame Express for the baby sampler, so I spent a little bit of time getting it framed. I had to sacrifice a cream pillow to put behind the sampler as the backing board showed through too much:
Then I started to get a sore throat, thinking it was just strain from singing too much during the day I didn't think too much of it, but it's kept me awake most of the night, so I'm now praying that I'm not coming down with something that keeps me away from work, still got plenty to do before the Christmas break.
It looks GREAT! :T Well done!!!
I had a sore throat yesterday & today I'm feeling terrible. Lots of bugs going round at the moment, I guess. On the Lemsips, but will go to bed soon. Getting a bit fed up with being ill constantly.
Still catching up with the last 3 days posts, but hope you're feeling better by now.sweetcarer wrote: »Been trying to tidy up today - house is like a coup. I just don't have the inclination to do much these days. Just work and sleep. Got a wee chuckle when I went into the hall cupboard. The cat needed more dry food - keep so much in a tuperware in kitchen rest in bag in hall. I had been conerned she wasn't eatting much. So I got the bag and thought that feels light - only got it a couple of weeks ago. Then I noticed she had chewed through it and had been helping herself. Little miss innocent when I confronted her with it.

All caught up with posts again now. Had a lovely weekend around Derbyshire. The craft fair was cancelled, due to snow etc, but we still went to Bakewell & had a look in Wye Needlecraft. Their christmas room wasn't very good this year. The man said a lot of the stuff they ordered never arrived, so they didn't have a lot to work with. Think perhaps they should've put up a big tree in there instead. Will post pics once I get chance to download them from the camera. The scenery up there was STUNNING! The snow was quite deep, but the roads clear so we drove around taking photos and oooh-ing and aaaah-ing at the sheep in the snow. LOL!
Have a horrible cold now and feel very sorry for myself. Will get an early night & check back in tomorrow-hopefully with photos and a good nights sleep behind me.
Hugs to all...xxxCross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Spiral - I feel your pain when it comes to borrowing money from parents. When I bought my house the bank wouldn't trust me with a mortgage so my Mum got it all sorted and signed it all etc, and put in a load of her own money that I'm paying back. Thing is that the house is still my home and I'm paying all the money back but my Mum thinks she has some sort of right to choose my decor colours or pass judgement on my furniture. She has been known to comment on the occasional luxury item that I may buy too, saying that the money would have been better used paying her back faster.
I know what it's like to not be able to stand up and put her in her place too. Do try to point out that the money is a loan, being used for the intended purpose which is to give you a suitable home to live in. Beyond that your furniture, decor and other lifestyle choices are your own. Try to agree a fixed rate of repayment and stick to it, then tell her that you are keeping your end of the agreement and she has no cause for complaint. I know it's hard but if the agreement is discussed then it's much easier to point out when you are sticking to your end of it.
I've not done any stitching in the last few days as my boiler has been broken and my house has been 7 degrees in the warmest part. I haven't wanted to take my hands from under the duvet or take my gloves off. £400 later and I have a nice warm house again now though. I'll get back to my stitching tomorrow probably and I'll try to remember to take a pic to show you all.
I tried to join the flicr group but my computer is complaining something about cookies and won't let me on. As far as I can tell all the cookie settings are fine though. I'll try again tomorrow.0 -

just a quick post as off to bed but I just wanted to pop on quickly and say how much I appreciate and love my cross stitch - I don't know if any of you are knitters ? but I'm about as good at knitting as a chocolate teapot ?!? anyway - have tried to cast on using the thumb method tonight (bit of practice before I attempt a proper pattern) and managed it after a bit of confusion albeit my stitches were very wonky / some pointing one way / some the other (lol) and I attempted long tail cast on but couldn't understand the video so before i threw the knitting across the room, have decided to leave it for today. At least with my cross stitch, I know what i am doing. Think my knitting aims will have a very short shelf life and it will all get put away for another few years !! I'm sorry this isn't really cross stitch related and I would be interested to hear from any of you who do knit and can offer me pointers. There is a knitting thread on here but it doesn't seem to move very fast or have many posters0

I can knit, I've made knitted dolls and toys but nothing very big. The idea of knitting something big enough to wear myself is a bit scary. I just do it the way my Mum showed me and I don't think I could put it into words. Good luck though, and the idea of searching you tube for learn to knit videos sounds like a good one.0

Why don't you just cast on using the 2 needle method! Much easier, although apparently not as "stretchy". Do a slip knot, knit a stich, but instead of passing it onto the next needle, twist it back on itself on to the original one - as if by magic, another stitch is made. Keep going.... then knit away
I only knit little toys, I get bored too fast and like stuff that can be done in a day or two... I could never be bothered to make clothes or even a scarf...
Best of luck
