    Hi Guys

I'm still plodding on with my Samurai, it seems to be taking for ever as there is loads and I mean LOADS of backstitch, but I'm finally starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel :j I will post a pic when its done.

The chart has lots of stitches in that I haven't tried before but I plucked up the courage to try the french knots and I succeeded first time...(please dont think i am bragging!) :T

But I was dreading starting the lazy daisies this week as I have never tried them before and the directions on the chart are not very clear but thanks to the link to the tutorial site I now know how to do them!! thank you!!

Aww, it's a shame to hear that you aren't able to get the french knots to work Chickywiggle. :( I've done quite a few of them now for Winnie the pooh works so am quite a pro, though I don't know how to explain them to people.

If I find a picture I'll post it.
EDIT: What about this one? http://lamdesigns.deviantart.com/art/How-to-do-French-knots-36041026 Looks pretty much how I do it. I tend to keep the thread taut as I put the needle through the fabric.
  • i'm rubbish at french knots and tend to leave them out if i can or replace them with a bead, i will one night sit down and practice!

thanks, I don't know... well i DO it doesn't knot - it just kinda falls off the top (hole) end of the needle or unravils. I find it quite hard to keep it tight when putting the needle back thro as I don't have 3 hands (1 for the needle, 1 for the thread and 1 for the hoop)

    Evening all

Just taking a quick break from sewing :D

Im another who replaces french knots with beads too :rotfl:
Mine either end up about 2" up the thread of just don't knot at all :p
Hubby on the other hand it professional at them :T-good job too as he has loadsssssssss to do on the bottom part of his owl :rotfl:....

Poppet Im loving that angel -its strange as every so often I see kits etc that are really NOT my kind of thing but I love them -and yours is one -its so nice :T. I think it would look lovely as a cushion -but I would hate to see anyone lean on it if it was mine :p-so I would stick it behind glass too ;)

I got all excited today as hubby came home having copied the charts for my next projects and armed with a new pack of 6 different coloured highlighters -acquired from work .....its amazing how easily pleased I am :rotfl:...
Pm2326... Im sure you will be fine with the new stitches... I had to get the hang of couching and cording on mums xmas pressie.... Not my fave things I have to say -but I got there -eventually :p

right -hubby has made me a cuppa and plonked it by my seat...so off to sew I go ;)
    Have a great evening all

She wouldn't be my personal cup of tea either ( a bit busy) but I know someone who'll love her. Funny you should say about a cushion because that's exactly what they've done with her in the book I got the chart from. I think I will put her in a frame, the thought of messing it all up if I tried to stretch it over canvas is swaying me in favour of a frame.

You need to keep the thread really tight when you push it back through - I tend to put a finger (left hand) over the head of the needle to keep the knot in place while I pull the needle through with the right hand

Also, sorry if I'm stating the obvious here:o, but don't go back through the exact same spot - split the fabric a tiny bit next to the hole and go back through that part. That means you have a strand of fabric 'in' the knot and stops it all going back through the hole..

    Hope that makes sense?

Thanks Louise but nope I still can't make it work. I always have left a gap but it just doesn't knot to begin with. Am sure it'll click one day....... I remember once (i think the 3rd time i tried) i had the most perfect knot but never since.
