I use the DMC gold concept wallets in a couple of arch lever files and I love them. They are not a very money saving system but every thread has it's place and it works for me.0

I've seen the stitchbow wallets and wonder if they are any better or can anyone reccomend a different system entirely?
I used to have stitchbows and the [plastic wallets for them but they were a pain in the backside
I changed over to these:

And they are brilliant!! :T You can buy the colour labels to stick on. I have 5 boxes and that holds every DMC colour. It took a while starting up, winding the bobbins ec, but I just done it in front of the tv and it didn't take all that long (few evenings)
Plus it's easy to see what I need and if I'm running low. And they are easier to store than the bulky A4 folders I used to have.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I use the same system - I've got 5 boxes and have sorted them by colour rather than numerical order, but now I'm thinking about changing that so I can see more easily where I have missing numbers. I'm going to Florida in March and will stock up on any missing or low numbers at a fraction of UK prices (about 20 pence each), plus they are light to carry home.

^^Threads are SO cheap over there aren't they - my mum goes to America every second summer and normally brings me back a big bag of threads (400 last time, it was like xmas LOL)
She had got them in a sale as well - so 10cents each :TCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I use the same system as Louise - this is what I have always used since the late 1980s. I did have one box for Anchor threads and one for DMC - though I have filled both when I added my latest project's threads, so have ordered the one in Louise's link above. It should arrive tomorrow, along with more card bobbins to finish winding on all the threads (I have over 30 waiting to be wound on!) and a daylight energy-saving light bulb. I just write the numbers onto the bobbins - cheaper that way!.
Boy am I glad I have ordered one of those bulbs. I have floor lamps sort of like giant angle-poises (over 14 years old from Ikea!) I can get them quite close to where I work (in conservatory and sitting room), but found last night I was straining a bit to see at times. Mind you, that may be because I was sewing in a dark navy!
So today I am moving onto another colour for a change, unfortunately it is black!!I will try to get a good chunk done in the day-time, so then I can get going with nice bright colours later. I decided to start in the centre of the design, which unfortunately has largish blocks of navy and black, Can't wait to escape them though!
I have made my own thread sorters and will post a piccie in the next day or so, along with ones of my Astronomer that I started yesterday.
Didn't get any sewing done this morning, though did some ironing while watching Andy lose to Roger...shame my fellow Scot didn't play very well. Perhaps he will win Wimbledon this year!
I am on tenterhooks at the moment as DS2 is playing a rugby match at this very moment in Scotland, with hopes of being picked for the Scottish under-17s national team!! They had to move the match from Stirling to Kirkcaldy (frozen pitch), and are now playing at my DH's old school! DS2 will probably not hear whether he has been picked until later this week/next week, so fingers crossed (but not while sewing :rotfl:!!).
Am on here for a few mins while my soup heats up, then it's back to the cross-stitch for most of the afternoon! I would like to get onto some nice colours by the time the boys get back (about 9 or so tonight).
Right, back to it....happy sewing folks.

Erics mum - I order my bobbins in numerical order, it makes finding the right one much easier.
chickywiggle- I use these wallets too. I have two threads sortersback to back per wallet so I can see the chart symbols and threads easily. Posting piccies tomorrow. Batteries in camera a bit dicey today, and am not going out just for batteries!! Found some old re-chargeables and have them charging, not sure how good they will be, but worth a try!
Louise - oooh, did you say threads are cheap in the US? Both my sisters are off to Florida in October for two weeks with their families...must start a list!!

I don't like using those little card or plastic bobbins as it makes my thread try to twist itself more than I like. I have the gold concept stitchbows and files for storing my threads then I use the roll up pouch from near ths bottom of this page http://www.threadsite.co.uk/tandem/accessories/threadstore.html to store the threads for the project I'm actually currently working on, and the ringbinders (just plain black arch-lever ones x2, not the official gold concept ringbinders) can live out of the way on the bookshelf.0

i use the big dmc storage boxes and then i have a little one which i store all the colours im using on that project then all my boxes stack up on a shelf out of the way
cant wait to see how the astronomer is coming along13 in 2013 challenge 9/130 -
What about something like this to store your threads - I use smaller ones (12 drawers x 3) just now but when I get organised I would like something like this. It holds a skien in length and you can get a few in the drawer. You can get them at any diy store - usually used for screw storage.
I also use for bobbins the same as Louise - for threads that come free with the magazines and left over threads that are not quite a skein.
Been cleaning like a demon, made a big pot of bolognise for when my nephew arrives on his holidays. He was meant to fly in Wednesday but his flights have been changed to Thursday - hopefully I can swap my day off.
Going to do a wee bit more on my floral alphabet now as a reward for all my hard work - even had time to make a coq au vin for tonights dinner - slowly cooking away in oven. House smells like a kitchen full of herbs and nices.
Kind wishes to all - enjoy your stitching
