I too learned that way, I've done most of my cross stitch like that. I only started going from bottom to top with my dictionary of homes, I thought I would struggle to adjust but it was easy and now I do it without thinking, somehow seems easier too!!

ab1767 u must be near me. I'm between Swindon and Oxford (although a lot closer to Swindon!) My MIL2B keeps mentioning Mason's, I think I might need to tag along with her 1 day :) either that or learn to drive!! :rotfl:

I work in Abingdon, live nearer to Witney. You must be Faringdon way, I guess. Masons is fab, they actually have 3 shops, one does curtain fabric and wool, another is fabric/haberdashery and the other is cross stitch, card making and sundry assorted other bits. A lunch hour really is not long enough!

I love all the santa's - espeicallly ellip's ;-) making me feel all christmassy already. A friend has just asked me to make a stocking for her daughter which will really put me in the mood. She's a florist, so in return she's making me a holly wreath from the overgrown bush in my garden :-) then I really will be ready :-) but it looks like the Noah's ark is going to be delayed again.

Looking forward to a lovely evening of sewing and stitching, OH is out with Very Important Clients so won't be back until late. Kidlets to bed and off we go, cos its just me I can have toast for tea and no one will nag about proper meals!

    Thanks kiess for the info.

I've been looking at the haed site and some day I'm going to do one of their designs once I have more experience. I was just wondering has anyone done a haed design before and how long it takes?

Woohoo tis Friday and tomorrow is stitching day cos dh has re-arranged his weekend and is working on Sunday instead of Saturday:j

Am going to start something or get on with a UFO so planning on spending some time mooching through my sewing box to get stuff ready for the morning - what a nice way to spend an evening. AM tempted to do a Christmassy one if I can get the material and threads sorted out.

Sorry to hear your news elliep - and well done for the beautiful Santa - Who is the kit by?

Hope everyone else has a good stitchy weekend.

you know what? i dont actually know what i do! is that odd? i just stitch in rows either to fill an area, say 10 squares by 10 or the shape of the bit usually as i havent done anything huge. i just tootle along doing the stitches where they'll go, mostly trying to remember that if i'm moving on to a new bit and just come out of a hole i can't go back down it right away as it'll undo!:o and really dont know about this 'top to bottom' thing you're talking about.:o
