Oh I've just been on a big learning curve... And there was me thinking cross stitch was easy. Serves me right for being ignorant and nieve.
Cazmcf - that's not ignorant or naieve, it's just maybe a bit of a beginer and not reading a chart correctly... and we all make that mistake from time to time! i know i do. bloody reindeer leg.
Kezzy - thats a pretty flower. thanks for the long post!howd you find your llidl machine? i was thinking of getting mum it, but people on the sewing thread warned me off.
thanks ABi! :T enjoy your shopping trip. John Lewis has some lovely things. bit pricy sometimes. but they've just brought out a value range incuding really cheap machine needles and other things.Charliec45 wrote: »Did anyone watch Kirstie's homemade home last night - they had a feature on cross stitch and it made my very angry!!!!
~ what made me more irritated was:
a) kirsties self pitty "its so hard" "i cant do it"
b) the fact that bit of fabric was not long enough to do the whole word
c) she was only filling in the I and there wasnt any direciton given for a beginner on how find a place to start, follow the chart or tie off ends... :rotfl:  :rotfl:I also stitch a whole row in one direction then go back adding the top 'arm' of the cross so I end up where I started, ready to move down to the next row. I do sometimes do individual crosses though, as a way to travel across the fabric if my next block of that colour is somewhere else.
Ditto. I'm so sorry to hear your news Elliep. What a shock for you. Sounds like he just went away to think about himself and not what he should have been thinking about. i dont know the full situation of course, or your history or anything, but if i saw you say what you wrote on Jeremy Kyle i'd think you were better off without him!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Sorry there still isn't any update on Santa. I chose that design for my husband, and I almost completed it but last week he asked me for a divorce and I can't face working on Santa at the moment.23rdspiral wrote: »Kezzy - thats a pretty flower. thanks for the long post!

Did they mention any particular problems with it? I was a bit cautious myself, but if you can afford £59.99, it's worth a punt, considering that the cheapest standard machine is about £100!
I did read the link and luckily I didn't have one in my inbox, unless my spam got it. Got to be so careful, especially for those that aren't as aware as some people can be about these things.0 -
sending huge hugs elliep :grouphug: :grouphug: thinking of you
I was interested to read about cross stitch being featured on tv last night and have caught the clip via the you tube link on Emily Peacock's page - it made me laugh :rotfl: as Kirsty really didn't seem to get it to begin with
I work my cross stitch by working a row of half crosses and then going back along the row to complete the cross. I don't remember how I was taught but guess it must have been that way? I did try the complete a whole cross before moving to the next stitch method but think this takes longer? and I found myself on auto pilot and going back to the row of half cross then complete the cross without realising :rotfl: Working a half row first is best in my opinion unless using variegated threads when I think its better to complete the whole stitch before moving on.
I like the Emily Peacock designs but they are very expensive  and well outside of my price range. I'm also not sure if I would like the idea of cross stitching with wool ?0 -

Hi guys! I have been stitching and lurking lately.

Woooooo!! Maybe I will be able to afford to get it framed after I graduate in two years, lol. My mom pointed out it will be a good memory-keeper for this time in university, since I started it my first year in the dorms.
Also: I sorted all my threads tonight, then made a list of the threads I have on plastic/cardboard tabbies and stuck an index card in my filing box... then I took the skeins and separated them into ziplock bags by number (800s, 900s, etc) and made index cards to stick in each of the ziplocks... then I made a no-frills list on excell so I can see which ones I have, and where they're stored, and if I have more than one, etc. THEN I made a list of the threads I'll need to finish my next UFO and my next new project! Woo!
My next UFO is only missing three colours. The project I want to start when that's over has 60 colours to work with, but thanks to my new excel chart, I know I only need to buy 36 of them. That seems nuts: Who knew a relatively new cross stitcher could have nearly 100 different colours of thread? Crazysauce!
The next UFO I want to finish is a precious moments of a shepherd. I worked on it back when I was religious, and I think I tucked it away after I admitted to myself I wasn't any more. I think, with some time passed, it'll be therapeutic to finish him... almost like a catalyst to wrap up thoughts I have tangled up inside, if that makes any sense. I know it's not nearly the same as the Santa project with only 4 hours to go, but... I hope you will also find your project to be spirit-balm during a hard time, elliep. *hug*May your needle stay threaded, your stitches even, and may the goddess keep your tangles far away.
I'm No36 in a cross stitch challenge I don't quite understand yet, but my goal is to be done all the stitches on my UFO before Christmastime! :cool:0 -
Forgot to say on my post that it really annoys me when people say that something is too hard before they've even tried it (a la Kirsty), how do they know? :-/
Yes it wasn't easy to get going to start with (particularly if you are trying to do it by yourself).
I wonder if she showed Kirsty this way as it's wool she deals with mostly?0 -
