  • Hi,
sorry its taken me so long to post again. Thank you all for your warm welcomes, especially EllieP, hugs to you. It would be a real shame for you not to finish the Santa after all the hard work you have put in, and he is stunning!

I have to admit to completing a whole cross rather than doing a row of halves and then returning. I might try it that way the next time I have a block of colour to see if it's any faster for me.
My 1 yr old has started to go to bed a lot easier so I am finding I have a little more time for stitching which is great, and I feel like I have made some headway on the wedding sampler over the last week. I have taken some pics but haven't got around to uploading them yet but will post them when I am allowed to.

Cassolete, the girl on the beach is gorgeous, you must be so proud of yourself! Might have to add that to my to-do list at some point.

I meant to ask - does anyone know of any wedding samplers which feature a groom with a kilt instead of a morning suit??

Have looked through tons fo wedding samplers and the ones I like just aren't suitable. My brother gets married in Feb so I need to get a move on.

Thanks for posting that sweetcarer - you would think there would be more designs featuring kilts eh?

I don't think that one is for me though, it's pretty but a bit too basic compared to what I normally do.

Think designing my own may have to be the way forward...*groan* at least that way I could maybe incorporate their tartan into a border or something

This is exactly what I've found now baby is 8months and goes down without a fuss :j - I put the kids to bed (DD is 3) while OH cooks tea, then we eat together and I can get my sewing out afterwards. On a good day I can get them asleep by 6.30, and start sewing by 7pm, so I can get 4 hours in before bed at 11pm - that would be an intense evening sewing though... I would normally get 2 hours in easily.

John Lewis was fab, it's very little though, compared to others. I grew up in Sheffield and the JL there (was Cole Brothers when I was little) was mahoosive! Swindon has fabrics, but not haberdashery - boo! I emptied their remnants bin, but as they've only been open 2 weeks it wasn't very full. Got a new oilcloth for the dining table for colouring and painting for about £5, 2 0.5m remnants of spotty fabric for some sewing projects and I bought a couple of metres of plain cotton for lining things with. Total spend £14, but a good evening out - and then was treated to pizza by friend as she got tax rebate last week - £900!

Still not sewn my Noah's Ark to the frame. I will do it! I will! Still making doves though, done 3 now and just got some silver cord to make them into decorations. The haberdashery shop in Abingdon (Mason's) is really good, I just rarely have the time to get there on my lunch break.

TTFN, will do the Noah's Ark tonight... Promise...

Getting married 19th August 2011 to a lovely, lovely man :-)
  • Thanks for the congrats! :D I'm excited. :j I'm so thrilled to be doing something (anything!) new that I think my next UFO will be finished like a sneeze.

I forgot to mention that I had to order another chart because mine was falling apart... and the cheapest option was to buy a whole kit off of Ebay... so I have this brand new kit with a chart I will never use again (I can't imagine doing the same five year project twice, and that's how long it took me, haha!) So, if someone is wanting to do it, I would be willing to send it by post. My only request is for progress pics!! Think of it as my way for apologizing for lurking more than I comment. ;)

May your needle stay threaded, your stitches even, and may the goddess keep your tangles far away. :)

I'm No36 in a cross stitch challenge I don't quite understand yet, but my goal is to be done all the stitches on my UFO before Christmastime!

Thanks so much for all the hugs, they do mean a lot. I'm doing OK today and have just got home from work. I think I'm going to make some dinner (by which I mean reheat what I slowcooked yesterday and cook some rice) and watch Harry Potter 4 in preperation for the new one released tomorrow but I won't get a chance to see it until at least next wednesday.

I'm going to be brave and get Santa out while I'm watching HP. I think if I do a bit now and a bit on saturday then he may well be done. It's certainly possible to have him finished by the end of next week if I get on with it and make myself just do it.

I like the 'just married' wedding sampler in the link above, just below the one that has the option of the kilt. That was the type of sampler I was going to do for hubby and me but I guess I won't bother now... Oh well, all the more time for Santa and then my new project. I'm going to be doing this http://www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/Giraffe-Mother-and-Baby-Counted-Cross-Stitch-Kit/3372822/product.html?cid=133635 as someone was kind enough to nudge me the chart. I haven't ordered the fabric or checked my thread stock yet. I'm not letting myself until Santa is done. I have a patchwork blanket that I can work on if I get stuck between projects.

I promise I'll post pics of Santa later tonight. Please nag me if they are not up by 11 ish!
  • Here we go everyone

I'm still working on the snow round his feet, and I need to do some more edging of his coat fur on the left of the picture and some beading and more gold stars on his dress, but I'm getting there and it's really close.
