I also stitch a whole row in one direction then go back adding the top 'arm' of the cross so I end up where I started, ready to move down to the next row. I do sometimes do individual crosses though, as a way to travel across the fabric if my next block of that colour is somewhere else.
Sorry there still isn't any update on Santa. I chose that design for my husband, and I almost completed it but last week he asked me for a divorce and I can't face working on Santa at the moment. I've got my next projet lined up but I know that if I start it I won't come back to Santa for years. So I'm just trying to summon up the courage to finish Santa off. I think there is only about 4 hours left to do and I just need to be brave enough to get on with it. All of you who have expressed your interest in seeing my completed Santa are part of my inspiration for sticking with it rather than just putting it away and starting the new project. Thank you.0 -

WHAT?? OMG Ellie I am so sorry to hear that
Sending you huge (((HUGS)))
....but you still want to get it done and out the way, right - so when do you have time for 4 hours stitching? Put aside the thought of who it was going to originally...it's for YOU now and that's who you have to do it for.
We all want to see you finish this...even more now. xxxCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. <<hugs>> hun, hope you are ok, we're all here if you need to talk/ rant.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Am I the only one who usually does each full cross before going on to the next one?
The only time I do half and half is if I am working on an area and some stitches branch off.
ellie. Very sorry to read about what you are going through.
I agree with Louise, get it done and out of the way. Don't let who it was originally for put you off. It's a beautiful design and you have worked so hard on it.
Finish it for yourself!
(((Hugs))) We are here if you need to let off some steam!:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Thanks guys. I do want to finish it, and I knew that I ould ount on you to help me. Just had another look at it (didn't pick up the needle though) and I think 4 hours might have been a bit optimistic but still there isn't much left and I might be able to get it done on Saturday.
He moved out a bit over a month ago saying that he needed to get his head straight. He had been having violent tendencies and I had been telling him that his behaviour was not beffiting of a decent husband and he needed to accept responsibility and to change. I thought he was going away to think about that. Then a week ago he asked for a divorce. Goodness knows what reason he's going to put forward as his grounds for divorce but I don't really care about that anyway.
I knew that I could count on you all for inspiration to get Santa done so please don't let me give up. I want to stick to my target of complete by Christmas, sooner if possible. My Christmas is on Dec 15th as that's the time I could get off work to see my family.0 -

Oh my word!
Violence is never a good thing in a relationship, you have probably had a lucky escape.
Huge hugs and love to you ellie....stay strong! x:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

So sorry to hear that chick! As the others have said you should definitely still finish it off especially as you have already worked so hard on it!
LOL, yes I know what you mean (and I do it that was as well) however, in their defence I would say that if I was teaching a complete beginner I would start by teaching it the individual crosses way. After they had got the hang of it I would then explain about doing full rows at a time. So maybe that was her thinking behind it.
Shame on Kirstie for not being able to cross stitch already though!! Tsk:rotfl::rotfl:
Yup I totally agree that is a good way to show a beginner what the finished outcome should look like its just the fact that they didn't really explain it very well (in my opinion) but you never know it might have inspired some people to start cross stitching I suppose!Keep on comping!
