Wow - I have a lot of work to do! Nowhere near my estimate of 50% complete.... But it looks amazing, I hope mine looks that good. Annoyingly, the first step is to sew it onto my frame, as I have an old style one with the fabric attachments. Would love a snap on one, but kids have got to be fed....Hi everyone,
I came across a frame that was looking for a new home but I'm not sure how to get started with it. It's got dowling rods with a small strip of fabric stapled to it. I know I have to tack my x-stitch to it, but don't want to get it the wrong way up. I'm sure I've seen pictures of them on here somewhere but I can't find them. Can anyone point me in the right direction of some instructions please?
I would like some clips for mine, as it's a bit of pain to get even, but it's much better than using a hoop, particularly if you work in the well.Mountain_Ash wrote: »Hi folks,
Glad to see you're all cracking on with fantastic pieces of work. Can't show you mine unfortunately as Mum has borrowed my camera, but am progressing slowly.
Anyway, because nowhere round here sells Madeira threads, I have ended up with a second copy of WOXS Issue 170. I have taken out the sample Madeira gold thread to finish the project that I was working on, but if anyone wants the mag, the free Xmas card designs and the sample Madeira purple metallic thread, then please send me a pm with your snail mail address and you are welcome to it.
Big Zen hugs to all who want or need them.

I hate sewing the aida to the frame so swapped my frame for one that doesn't need to be stitched in. lol. My oh says it's because i have no patience and just want to get started .

Charliec45 - great projects!! :T LOVE that blanket, I like nothing better than sitting snuggled under a blanket while doing my stitching. We seem like a right bunch of old fogies on here don't we :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Your mum is going to love that squirrelHow are you going to transport it to the framers? I roll mind around a kitchen roll tube (or the roll from wrapping paper for larger projects) and then I can put it in a bag without worrying about it getting cushed or wet.
craftygranny - I am the same. Too impatient to stitch fabric onto a frame. Clip frames all the way for me lol:D

Charlie. I love the squirrel!
I started a blanket once.....had maybe 200-300 small squares I had knitted and was going to sew them together. When we moved they got binnedI'm afraid I sorted out the cupboard they were stored in when I was having a bad day and now I regret getting rid
Could someone do me a favour please...those of you with the floorstand I am looking to get....
At the moment I use my frame the other way round than the one in the picture. I have a short side bar in my lap and the other short bar points up to the ceiling.
Would it be possible to clamp my frame to the stand in this way or would it only work if clamped as per the picture?
Thanks:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
I am considering getting one of the posilock stands from hubby for xmas and just wondered if you could tell me what makes it uncomfortable for you? I'm slightly concerned about the height....or lack of it....but I guess as I sit on a sofa it should be ok?
Also is it really as easy as they say to flip over your work to look at the back of it?
I guess my chair (sofa) is not good for it and thats why I found it uncomfortable. If you have a good chair (guess a straight back one) I am sure it is fine. I am so used to it sitting the frame on me and using one hand to sew down then switching hands to switch up.craftygranny wrote: »I hate sewing the aida to the frame so swapped my frame for one that doesn't need to be stitched in. lol. I use masking tape to attach mine to the frame. Used to use pins but as I found out when I found Floral Alphabet after many a year it had rust marks. Also, I do the in the well method to help keep my stitching clean - here is what it was like at the start of me doing golden earth (a UFO to completed in a million years)
Will post an update picture later - couldn't find camera. Computer still at home - they have still to collect it.
Hope all is well in your part of the world

PS Shelly - guess you can put it any way you wish to do it.:j cross stitch forever, housework whenever :j0 -
Thanks ladies for the feedback so far. You're all stars!
I wasn't going to bother with a helping hand but having looked at where I would clamp my frame to the floor stand I don't like the idea of my stitches possibly being crushed by the clamp. With the helping hand the fabric doesn't seem to come into contact with any clamps?
Glad you mentioned the size because I was wondering what's best to do. I have 2 rotating frames, one is 15x9 and the other is 12x18. If I get the biggest helping hand (suits frames 18-24) will it go smaller to hold my smallest frame?
I'd like to get the biggest one really incase I ever buy a bigger scroll frame.
Thanks again.
The helping hand is really useful, it has magnets on either side which is where I keep my scissors. They can go as small as you like by sliding the sides toward the middle and you're right they do stop the clamp being on your stitching.I've never thought of that, what a good idea :T. I usually mark mine with a single thread of embroidery cotton but I find it hard to pull out after I've sewn over the top. Does the fishing line pull out easily, being finer and more slippy ?
Thanks
Linda
Hi Linda, I find it slides out pretty easily and it doesn't get caught in your stitching like I found thread can, just make sure you get a lightweight one, I'm using a 6lb line on 18 count aida at the mo, any thicker and I don't think there would be room in the holes for the thread as well iyswim.Could someone do me a favour please...those of you with the floorstand I am looking to get....

I just turned mine round to check for you and it fits fine sideways
