I haven't done any stitching this weekend :( but I have spent some time getting my cross stitch stash in some semblance of order :j This means I now have two or three folders of projects to keep me busy over the next year ....

I would be interested to hear from you if you have this kit

    (Celebration Sampler)

I'm confused because I'm sure I'm missing some of the chart..... and since Ive sorted all my stuff and haven't found it... I'm hoping its not lost....

Thank you to those who answered about the threads. I'm terrible for following my initiative and using just what I have but I was pretty miffed to buy threads for three Margaret Sherry designs recently, only to fall in love with the snowman design (under the umbrella) in this month's cross stitcher and find that it used different cross threads to what I have. I am not buying anymore !

Rather interesting on my sort out today, I found an old Margaret Sherry interview where she says she does not cross stitch ! and (at the time of writing the article in ?) did not own any cats !!

    Hi there

I use the rolling frames for my large project - floral alphabet and golden earth. I have a clip thing I can attach them to for a floor stand but find it quite uncomfortable. Like the one below

    posilock.jpg

Sweetcarer, I know you posted this a few months ago but I searched the thread for posilock and your post was the only one that came up!

I am considering getting one of the posilock stands from hubby for xmas and just wondered if you could tell me what makes it uncomfortable for you? I'm slightly concerned about the height....or lack of it....but I guess as I sit on a sofa it should be ok?
Also is it really as easy as they say to flip over your work to look at the back of it?

I'm wondering if I should save hubbys £££'s and just keep going as I am?

If anyone else has this one or a similar one I'd appreciate your feedback too!

    Thanks

  • ooooh shelly i have that stand and i love it. I have my calendar bears on it and it makes it so much easier . I sit on the couch to do mine too . I bought it especially for my bear pics and i wouldn't be without it now. It's fine if i sit on a higher chair too it's just a case of learning to adjust it.

Shelly, i remembered a while ago that someone mentioned Easy-Count Guideline as an alternative to marking the fabric, maybe this would better for black aida, bit pricey though. It's really just nylon thread but it doesn't get caught like normal floss, but it got me thinking isn't fishing line made of nylon too or similar, i have a fishing tackle shop round the corner :rotfl:

  • Shelly I have that stand and I love mine too! I sit in my rocking chair (yes I am really only 26 :rotfl:) and stich and as craftygranny says it's just a matter of learning to adjust it. A tip though if you want to buy one of the helping hands to go with it, just buy the biggest one, you can adjust it for a smaller frame then rather than buying a smaller one then having to get a bigger one when you start a bigger project (guess how I know that lol).

NMM I use fishing line to mark a grid on my fabric! I'm using a brown one at the mo but I reckon a yellow one would show up really well on black.

I wasn't going to bother with a helping hand but having looked at where I would clamp my frame to the floor stand I don't like the idea of my stitches possibly being crushed by the clamp. With the helping hand the fabric doesn't seem to come into contact with any clamps?

Glad you mentioned the size because I was wondering what's best to do. I have 2 rotating frames, one is 15x9 and the other is 12x18. If I get the biggest helping hand (suits frames 18-24) will it go smaller to hold my smallest frame?
I'd like to get the biggest one really incase I ever buy a bigger scroll frame.

    Thanks again.

    Hi everyone,
I came across a frame that was looking for a new home but I'm not sure how to get started with it. It's got dowling rods with a small strip of fabric stapled to it. I know I have to tack my x-stitch to it, but don't want to get it the wrong way up. I'm sure I've seen pictures of them on here somewhere but I can't find them. Can anyone point me in the right direction of some instructions please?

Managed to get some more done this week :)http://www.flickr.com/photos/54706782@N03/5154676615/

Sammy, mine is like that - fabric that you have to tack the sewing to. I'm not sure you can get it upside down, mine comes apart totally so you can have the rollers different widths apart - I usually take it apart to stitch the fabric on. Top tips - I use cross legged stitch to do mine, seems to hold the best, but takes a while to set up. And take enough time to make sure it's secure before you start, I've had one come loose and it is a pain to reattach once there is stitching on the aida. Apart from that, it is a fabulous frame - I would like one identical, but with the easy clip bars top and bottom :-) And a chart holder you be nice - I usually end up pinning mine to the webbing strips. I'm sewing my new project onto the frame tonight, will post piccies once it's done.

Do you want to acquire mine? I got one in the summer, and I can't bear it. I have decided that me and frames just do not get one.

    Let me know x

I've never thought of that, what a good idea :T. I usually mark mine with a single thread of embroidery cotton but I find it hard to pull out after I've sewn over the top. Does the fishing line pull out easily, being finer and more slippy ?

    Thanks

  • Hi peeps!
I have finally finished the squirrel cross stitch for my mum for christmas I have washed it and its ready to be framed - was going to take it today but its chucking it down with rain and as I have to walk to work I didn't want to risk my hard work being ruined! The blue pen came out really easy - literally within minutes of being in the water!
