    Hi everyone :)

I managed to figure out how to wash and press best mates cross-stitch :) I stupidly wrapped it up without taking a pic  but I mounted it on some stiff black card and put it in a clip frame - it actually looked really good!!!

this is the actual stitching - its not quite finished there, but the club badges were done in green and black. It was also done without a pattern but bear in mind Im quite new to all of this - it looked a lot better finished, framed and mounted I assure you :D

Hello everyone - message for Elliep:
have a look at all the websites selling JUST PATTERNS/CHARTS - works out CHEAPER than buying kits, and you can choose what sort of fabric YOU want to use for the design, and use up some of your thread stash too! I always had to photocopy and enlarge the patterns in the mags - more expense.

OR invest in software and design it yourself !!!

I've not bought a magazine in YEARS (can't afford to - every penny going to paying bills - 'birthday money' paid for the software), so do my own designs, design for friends and share with friends - greetings cards, samplers etc. Then what you are sewing is original too.

    Hi Flat Eric

I don't have all the threads though ? Does anyone have any ideas. I am not allowing myself any more craft spends for quite a while ! so I won't be able to buy the threads. I do have plenty of threads - just not the ones it says...

Simple - get a thread chart (DMC) - you don't need a brand new one; look for secondhand ones on auction sites - and look for the numbers of the threads the pattern SAYS you need. Very often, you will find you ALREADY HAVE colours that are VERY close in the shade range. Or, you could change shade ranges quite easily - if, for example they are using reds/pinks in the 760 range, and you only have the 871 - 353 range - no problem, just substitute light for light, dark for dark. Just don't mix shade ranges - that can look awful. eg. red 666 can be substitued with 817 or 321 with very little difference.
Glad to help if you need any more info !!
  • Hello everyone- not been on for a while and also done no stitching

I've been manic at work, BUDGETS! Yack!

I had to pop up a message just to say how lovely everyone's work it.

I want to get back to making my 100 cats :)

By the way, that black kitten is beautiful. I want it :)

My two were skulking under the bed last night due to the fireworks, and we had a third little skinny rat visitor. Three little tabbies. How cute :)

I haven't read Cross Stitcher yet but I like the snowman under the umbrella Margaret Sherry design and have found some xmas green aida to stitch it on. I don't have all the threads though ? Do you have to use the exact same colours the design asks for or could you personalise it by choosing your own colours?
Change the colour of his scarf or umbrella etc? (assuming it's the design on the Cross Stitcher mag site, if it is the same one they have a link for you to download the mount that goes with it)
When I did the birdhouses in post #5319 the only colours that were as per the design were the borders and the sunflowers, everything else was stitched using colours I had in my stash.

Well, I was very well behaved. Did a whole load of tidying and found a v v v old UFO - a Noah's Ark birth sampler. Have a baby to stitch for due 2nd April so will make that my challenge (I was being over ambitious with size as usual and it is mahoosive) - but probably about 50% complete, so realistic challenge I think... So instead of going to the sewing shop I did the laundry (polishes halo).... and the went to the fabric shop in Burford instead and bought a load of lovely remnants to make cushions with (halo slips and chokes me slightly....)

This is the Noah's Ark one.

The noahs ark is so cute, it will be lovely.

I bought cross sticher today, not that impressed. Its only the second cross stitch mag I've ever bought but I prefered the other one (cant remember what it's called now).

I've also fallen in love HAED, why oh why did one of you have to mention it. I've resisted so far but it won't be long before I secumb (sp?) to temptation.

    More xstitch planned for tonight.

Woohoo - I'm no. 43 :-) So, Noah's Ark by mid March 2011. Unfortunately I have got a couple of sewing projects on the go, am Amish puzzle ball and a new changing bag for me. The puzzle balls are very funky, a friend asked if I could make one for her son :-)

  • Hi guys how are you all? Sorry for not being on much again. I havent done much stitching for 2 months because my hands shake badly with the drugs so trying to hold it is a pain, having said that im waiting for some fabric I ordered *hand dyed* in september for my next project anyway so its not too bad. I am considering buying one of the 3 below and attempting to stitch as a special present to my dad as its always been my mum that gets things previousl and was thinking of something from nutmeg. Has anyone stitched and made up one of their projects before? and do you think a 70 year old man would like one of these?
