poppet: your daughters cross stitch is lovely. She has done it very neatly. Where are you going to put your 'keep calm' picture? Your ufo looks very complicated hope you get back into it.

Thanks pennib, she usually starts something and leaves it for months before going back to it but I think her Dr Who took her about a week to complete. My "Keep Calm and Carry On" is going to be framed and put up in my kitchen.....if you knew me you'de know why! My family say I have "Kitchen Tourettes" because as soon as I enter THAT room the swearing begins. As for my UFO she is an HAED "Garnet" by Rachel Anderson. There are other photos further back along this thread.

They are in the world of cross stitching no 159. I hope to make it into a cushion....eventually.
  • Hiya all,

I hope it's ok to post on here. I am after so advice - where/how to I start cross stitching???? Should I buy a magazine to help me? Where would I buy supplies from? Sorry if this has already been asked but I am going to start reading through this thread.

    Hello and welcome :j

I have been cross stitching on and off for the last 12 years .....

I typically buy my cross stitch supplies from http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ or from ebay. I also subscribe to World of Cross Stitching and Cross Stitcher. If you buy a cross stitch mag with a free kit (Cross Stitch Card Shop's current issue gives you a free reindeer kit) then you will have all the bits and pieces needed to complete your kit and you will be able to get a feel for what its all about! Enjoy !

My World of Cross Stitch dropped on my door the other day :j and having fallen in love with the lovely country companions design, I went on sew and so and ordered the threads ! and the material ! I couldn't make up my mind whether to stitch it on 16 count cream (the size the mag has used) or 14 count cream so I ordered both except I have mistakenly ordered 16 count white and 14 count cream ! I don't think white aida suits the design and I still can't decide on 14 count or 16 count so what do others think ?

The country companions designs I have seen tend to have a fair amount of backstitch so I would go with the 14 count if I were doing it to make life easier :)

Bah, that's annoying... I get Cross Stitcher.

If anyone found that they had this mag, and that it just happened to open to this page and jump into their scanner and turn itself into an email file(;)) well you know who wants it!! (Please :))

Well it doesn't hurt to ask does it :)

I think it will look fab as a cushion xx

Please forgive me if you think me being rude but have you ever used this site http://www.across-town-stitching.talktalk.net/index.html for your threads and fabric?
Threads alone on acrosstown are much cheaper than from sew&sew and postage costs are very reasonable.

Acrosstown comes highly recommended on this thread as their customer service is fantastic.
