well i bought one today, and had an email of dispatch confirmation...
*sit's and twiddle fingers until it arrives.

I will take a copy of it so i can make another for myself at some point.
I'm a bit annoyed with myself, i had a frame that you could stitch the material onto to keep it in shape, and whilst doing a de clutter while i was moving a few months ago..... i think i chucked it away.

ohhh which one did you cave on?

:( I think your son definitely deserves a treat - hope he gets better soon!!

How easy is it to frame the cross stitch yourself as I have always taken them to framers - even the standard sized ones - which I know isn't the most cost effective way by far! Where do you get the mount etc from? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have a few finished projects but not enough dosh to take them to the framers!

I bought some sticky board ( i think it is called mount board) from the art shop and a frame and mount from wilkos. Then you measure the board to fit the design, cut the board, peel back the adhesive and stick it on, then stick it in a frame and seal gaps at back of frame with tape.

Or you can do it the proper way and lace it which means you don't stick it to adhesive mount board but place mount board over back of material, then use thread and needle to zig zag across back and top to hold in place, a bit like a ladies corset type effect. This is better as no adhesive can get onto your design and spoil it over time but it is a bit fiddly and time consuming to do.

If it is something I give away or a christmas design that doesn't come out a lot then I use sticky board but tend to get the framer to do my special ones or ones which are an awkward shape.

I took 4 today and it will cost my £60:eek::eek: I haven't had any done for 5 years (had 2 kids so not much time for me:rotfl: ) and nearly fainted but I spent a lot of time on them and don't go out much so have justified the expense to myself.

I treated my son to some binka:D He is doing a robot design we made up, he has done most of the outline so far then got fed up but I think it has made him appreciate the effort that goes into mine.:)

Kezbaby - your scarf is fab! i know this is the cross stitch thread but do you mind me asking where you got the pattern from and how easy it is ? im not a very good knitter ! but I really enjoy doing it and would like to improve.
I bought it from Hobbycraft, but could ;);) the chart to you if you would like?

As for easy, yeah I would say so, as long as you understand the chart, it's pretty straight forward. I'm happy to help out if you get stuck. :)

hello! i did a few things as a youth, but when i picked it up again i started with a few magazines - for £4.00 i got the kit (needle, chart, aidea at the right size, and enough threads), and a magazine for hints and inspiration. then i had to resist buying every mag each month! i then got some cheap Aida from the market and tried some of the magazine charts, and some cheap Aida & threads from the 99p Store and some kind charts sent by some lovely people :)

(i've been really good for a few months, but i think Bubbles WOXS might have tipped me back again! oopsie!)

Hi Charlie, those are going great! like the Home Sweet Home Cusion a lot and LOVE the freehand work.
    - i've never thought of just posting my flickr link before - that would give me more hits on my photos wouldnt it!?
    - have you thought about adding your works to some of the stitching Flickr groups?
    - if you want to post the actual pictures here you can copy and paste from your 'photostream' page, or go into the photo, select different sizes and copy and paste from there.

    ~ ps. i LOVE flickr!

Ah Thanks for this! Yeah I did want to put the photos on here but I didn't know how so just put the link! Still don't really know how but I will try and follow your instructions for further uploads!

I didn't even know there were Flickr groups!! I am quite green when it comes to these sorts of things! Hopefully I will finish the freehand cross stitch soon so that I upload the finished picture!
    Keep on comping!

    Ah thats good to hear!!!

That sounds like hard work! I might trial it out on a small piece! Wouldn't want to wreck it after spending hours creating it!

Thank you for the replies about what is best for me to get started on. I have been to the newsagents and the christmas magazine is out so he is ringing his supplier tomorrow so fingers crossed he will get it for me on Thursday, If not, I will think again but maybe get one of the other magazines with a little starter kit free. I cant wait to get cracking !!
