Oh, there's no way I'm doing three of them. I made that clear to mom. But I am doing one of them, for her. :) Almost wishing it wasn't a kit because I've been admiring that lovely Aida cloth that magically loses its lines when you wash it! Looks like it would make life so much easier! Does it come in different colours?
May your needle stay threaded, your stitches even, and may the goddess keep your tangles far away. :)

I'm No36 in a cross stitch challenge I don't quite understand yet, but my goal is to be done all the stitches on my UFO before Christmastime!

Just buy the washable pen. Much cheaper and comes out with a rinse in cold water, instead of having to wash it in a 40C wash. They're really cheap-try Sew & So or maybe even eBay. Trust me, they're worth it & you'll use it a lot!

I'm off on holiday to the US in a couple of weeks and want to get some cross stitch supplies - both kits, Aida and threads, maybe even some storage boxes. I understand things will be cheaper over there than here in the UK!
So, my question is, does anyone have any recommendations of where to go or places I definitely have to visit?
    Thanks in advance

Where abouts in the US are you going and will you have access to a car? Michaels ( http://www.michaels.com/art/online/home )and Joanns ( http://www.joann.com/ -site down at the moment, though!) are good stores to check out, but they tend to be in out of town shopping centres. Harder to get to if you have to rely on public transport, although it can be done with some branches. Always have a Google for local needlecraft shops too, as these are often the best places to discover.
Walmart would probably good for storage boxes, but remember you have to cart all this back home, so don't go too crazy. Excess luggage charges are very costly! Have a fab time. I'm off to San Francisco & Las Vegas in 3 months!!! :T:j:T:j

Thanks for all that info. We will be going to Augusta for a week to stay with my aunt and then onto charleston and savannah for a couple of days.
Fortunately we will have use of a car so should be able to get out and have a bit of exploring!
I'll ask my aunt about those you mentioned and see if there are any nearby. I will be taking a mainly empty suitcase so hope to be able to bring a lot back!
Enjoy your trip to San Francisco I was there a couple of years ago & it's amazing :)

All sites I mentioned have store finders, so it'll be easy to find how close they are to where you're staying. I think Joanns have a leaflet they give out (also online) with weekly offers on. Worth a look.
I've been to San Francisco a couple of times before & love it. My favourite city to visit!

Have you done your ESTA form yet?

Just a note from last time I was in the States - Wallmart don't do any cross stitch anymore - they lost the DMC contract.

    Note from the DMC website

We would like to advise you that Wal-Mart is discontinuing the stitchery department in all their stores. As a result, you will no longer be able to purchase either DMC or other stitchery products at your local Wal-Mart. While this decision by Wal-Mart unfortunately impacts their needlecraft customers, DMC remains committed to providing fine threads and related products to the needlecraft community.

DMC products will remain available at retail outlets nationwide. We encourage you to use our Store Locator, located at the top of this page, to find retail shops that are most convenient for you. We will continue to update our website on a regular basis as new stores are added to our retail network.

Enjoy your trip - wish we were going this year to see family but can't.

    Kind wishes

    sweetcarer ;)

PS Note about ESTA - take a print out just in case.

I got fed up of Rocky point and started a Millenium design yesterday:( It's by Craft collection (not sure if they still even exist) and obviously I bought it 10 years ago:rotfl:

It's really huge and difficult hold in your hand so I am using my frame. It's on 14 count aida and you don't have to fill in all of the material which is a welcome change from 18 count and a background which is completely filled;) Think I will alternate between the 2 for a while until I get the desire to flit back to Rocky point and finish it off:) I only have these 2 on the go though so don't feel too bad. Am off to a lovely wool and fabric shop on Sat though so may well end up buying some wool even though I havent started the scarf yet. The picture on the net of the shop look great and I can feel my fingers itching ready to buy!

I have been showing my new friend next door my stitching and it has got her inspired to find her stuff out and start again. She can't remember how to do it though so she wants me to show her. Hope she gets into it again! I have so many friends who don't have a hobby and I really find it strange. I have to have something to do or I simply get bored and I can't understand how they don't.

cassolet I really really like your design and think I might just have to buy it!
sweet carer you sound really down in the dumps, hope you are feeling better soon.
tell me it's friday hope you and your mum perk up a bit soon too. Staying in hospital is pants and visiting is very tiring. Could you not stitch when you are with her, I have a sampler which I did when visting my mum and my gran and it helped me get through those times.

And finally! does anyone know of any good magazine deals at the mo? My fave is cross stitch gold, but world of and crosstitcher are good. Don't like card shop or xstitch crazy.

    Happy stitching

I would feel a bit bad going to see her, and then completely ignoring her whilst I did something else!

I got into trouble last night while I was there! Visitors aren't meant to stay during dinner time (5.15 - 6.15) but I always do, and they've never said a word before. I got told off yesterday though. They said I was distracting her by making her laugh too much. Grr! 1) she asked me to stay with her (dilemna as to whether I do as she says, or I do as the nurse says) and 2) it's so nice to see her laugh, I have to keep trying :)

Any way, she's seeing their psychologist on tuesday because she's told them she's sad :( They were already concerned that she's getting a bit depressed (mega common after a stroke apparently), and we all have a meeting on Thursday to check how she's doing...

Oh it's so nice to have someone to rant to :) Sorry if I'm boring

No stitchy news of course, may have to treat myself to a day of it tomorrow :T:j, before I go and get told off for visiting (just at the time when you'd pop in on the way home from work for an hour!!!!)

Go away rain - I want to go for a walk tomorrow!

Hi, I've just joined this website and forum and found this thread. I'm a keen cross-stitcher and love doing it. At the moment I'm working on a Hello Kitty piece. I'll try to put some photos up of it later.

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi - looking forward to sharing tips and seeing others pieces :)

Welcome to our merry little band pimpom.

sweet carer you sound really down in the dumps, hope you are feeling better soon.

Just going through a rough patch - things a little difficult at home and hubby job might be under threat - they are disciplining him again for going home ill - he informed a manager but because it is within 6 months of his verbal warning they have to see him.. He took a letter in from Doctor about his IBS but I don't think they see that as a problem/disability. Hope he doesn't lose his job as we live in our overdraft. Can't see a way to afford a holiday - we are off for two weeks in October - we would like to go back to Holland as we enjoy it there but its expensive for us (only £500 for a week).

    tell me it's friday
I hope your mum gets a little easier soon. When my late husband was in hospital they let me go when I wanted - keep him company - he was profoundly deaf so no one really talked to him as they didn't know how (how can you not know to write down things if you couldn't sign).

I worry about my mum too - tho she is a little easier these days.

Popped on during my lunch break - enjoying doing my american annivesery cross stitch - will post update on Sunday night.

Kind wishes where ever you are.

    sweetcarer ;)
