Hi there, I wonder if I could join you here please? I've been reading this thread for a while now and been inspired to get back into cross stitch! I used to do it years ago and really enjoyed it but for some reason haven't picked any sewing up for a long time.
To get myself started again I have bought this http://www.sewandso.co.uk/cgi-bin/find/db.cgi?db=zoom&do=search_results&Prod_Code=65884&ww=1 to do for my pal's birthday gift and a Disney Belle bookmark for my sister's Christmas.
I have a couple of questions I was hoping someone might be able to help with, how do you all store your sewing and threads? I've seen a few sewing boxes on different websites but wonder if a wee bag is better? For the thread, how do you keep track of what shades they all are? I've only ever used kits before but I'm watching some charts on ebay so will probably be starting to build up my own collection of threads.
Thanks.0 -
Hi wannabe - welcome to the thread!
I use bobbins and a bobbin storage box (well, 3 actually!!) to store my threads. When I buy a new thread, I wind it onto a bobbin, and write the make and number of the thread (e.g. DMC 310) on the top of the bobbin. You can also store threads on bobbins in a thread organiser which also has a little space for scissors, etc.

Morning everyone,
Hope you are all well xxx
Chicky, I had to go back for a second look to find the pink pen. I didn't notice it first time! I hope it comes out for you though, it's a fab picture.
Hi Wannabe , I too wind new threads onto cardboard bobbins. I write either DMC or Anchor on it and the shade number, and then keep them in a storage box. I really like the project you have chosen, it's lovely. What a fab idea that it's supplied with backing board and a frame, I've never seen a kit like that before!
No end of month update from me (again!) sorry, I've been a bit busy and not had chance to do much stitching. I will try harder now it's August, promise:xmastree:What a splendid idea, this Christmas sounds fun. I fully endorse it, let's try it at once!:xmastree:0 -

Hello, nice to meet you
I like the kit you've chosen too - infact, I think it may have given me a present ideaThanx!
I store my stuff in big plastic crates (3 infact - huge great big things!) I have loads - I should get some on ebay really. I have my charts in plastic wallets in some big files (5 - oh dear I am an addict aren't I).
I used to use those card bobbins, but now I just put them in big freezer bags (nice thick plastic, and you can write on them) with a contents lists attached to each bad. I also keep a list on excel of the colours I have with a note about which bag it's in! (Aren't I sad!).
For the bits and bobs that I do away from home, I have a fabric roll - you can put your chart, threads and fabric in that, with your scissors and pen, roll it up and pop it in your bag. Perfick for taking to work to do at lunchtime, for sneaking on to aeroplanes (but don't forget to take the scissors out) or for taking on the train. (I'll try and find a link for one you can buy - but I made mine with some nice thick cotton fabric and some ribbon.)
Haven't I wabbled on like a loser. Sorry!
Back to the cats. Time to start number 41!
Enjoy your Sunday, hope you all get to relax xx0 -
My aim was to complete 2 whole squares from this kit (am planning on doing the backstitch later). I haven't exactly done this, but as you can see from the pic, I have stitched a lot of the title banner, and quite a lot from square one, the whole of square 2 (just spotted I've missed one stitch on the cherry!) and some of square 3. So I'm sort of there...;)
And I did stitch the June pillow, which wasn't even on the challenge? Can I still have my dance???Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27
