I've often bought my threads from a lady on ebay (username stitchmode) but she's closing down now.

She used to have a job working from home making up cross stitch kits, cutting the right fabric and the right number of 1m lengths of each thread. As a result she had a cone (1000m I think) of each DMC colour. She'd measure off 8m and pop it in a ziplok bag, write the number on the bag and send it. She used to chaarge 27p per 8m length and you could get as many or as few as you wanted.

I don't store my threads in skeins anyway so I never minded that they didn't come with the DMC bands on.

Does anyone know anywhere else I can find a similar service? Now that the lovely lady I knew has all but closed down?

Judellie, the 16m bobbin sounds to me like someone has measured 16m off a cone and wound it onto a bobbin for you.
  • westbbc was the last seller i used for threads

    any 5 for £2
    and 10 for £2.95
    any 30 for £8.70
    any 50 for £14.75

    Thanks ChickyWiggle

When you received your threads from Westbbc how did they come? I just mean proper skeins? in a ziplock bag? on a bobbin?

I don't mind but I prefer to know what to expect.

Wow, Louise you've done loads. I know you think it looks like a small patch but the rest of us appreciate how much work that actually is.

I notice you are using the blue line markings. Is this ink or thread and how do you get rid of it once you have finished the stitching?

Yeah, each rectangular section is around 7,200 stitches - I have surprised myself that I keep going:rotfl:

The blue lines are a water soluble marker which I bought after the previous stitch thread was started, someone (I forget who) recommended it and it has been a godsend!!

It washes out really easily once the piece is completed, It's my most essential piece of kit nowadays, it makes stitching so much quicker.:j

As Louise said she is using a water soluble marker pen. I have one too but never really used it much but I do use my fade away pen alot. Its a fine pointed purple pen (like felt tip) that once you mark your fabric it disappears completely by itself after a few hours.

Its especially good for if you have a few stitches here and a few there. You can mark the fabric, stitch your stitches and it disappears by itself.
I found the best price from a local fabric shop in town because I obviously had no postage to pay. Prices weren't too bad online but once I added postage costs it got a bit silly.

I have a Tiger & Cub kit to do that's on black fabric and I am hoping I can get a white fade away pen. If I can't I'm going to have to concentrate much more than I do when stitching :D
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

    Hi all,

I would like to convert a non-digital photo to a cross stitch chart - has anyone any recommendations on what to use to get a great result? DMC threads are preference :)

Nursery picture is coming along slowly but at least has been started - I'll have to see about getting some pictures taken.
