Kez - I have the same issues with 18ct, for my HAE design I swapped to 14ct aida (aka 28ct evenweave) and it has made my life so much easier

It is a fair bit bigger than intended, but I honestly think I would have dumped it by now if I was using the smaller stitching.

  • You may recall I asked your opinions on which sampler to stitch for the OH's Aunty and Uncle and decided on the celtic love knot.

Anyway I was clearing out the back bedroom and I found the family tree kit that I had order yeons ago together with a baby sampler kit bought for when my sister was expecting her twins - must have been 3 years ago as they will be 3 in the summer!

(no wonder I have no money, lol!)

Anyway have decided to put them on ebay - won't get what I paid for them but will recoop some of it I guess!

I haven't started the celtic knot yet - have only today managed to find somewhere where I can photocopy the pattern large enough to prevent me straining my eyes so have no excuses for starting next week.

(I've also decided to sew it for my sister for Christmas!)

    Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone had used https://www.crossstitchworkshop.co.uk before.

They have 16m bobbins of DMC thread for the same price as the 8m skeins. I've never seen DMC sold in any other form apart from the 8m skeins, so would value anyone's opinions on the authenticity of this. Thanks.

Also, I ordered a couple of made to measure frames from https://www.pictureframesexpress.co.uk for a couple of odd sized pictures I'd stitched and was very impressed by the quality and speed of delivery. I ordered them Sunday and they arrived yesterday (Thursday). Would recommend them if you have a special odd sized piece to frame.

    Hope this helps someone

    Hi all
Sorry, for got to say in the above post that https://www.crossstitchworkshop.co.uk also has a list of several discontinued DMC threads with suggested alternatives. It might be worth checking it out and making sure you have enough of these ones to finish a project, in case you have trouble getting hold of them in the future.

I know it's here somewhere, but haven't been able to find it yet. Sorry! Am going away for a week tomorrow, but will start the hunt again when I get home. Honestly, I have no idea how I can lose so much stuff in a 2 bed flat!!!

    Hi Jude,

Sorry, I've not used cross stitch workshop - nor ever heard of them - but DMC were doing some threads last year at the bigger size as some sort of promotion. Could these be surplus stock of that? Think most of the big stores had them, certainly they were available through our lovely SewandSo as I bought some. You can also buy DMC and Anchor online where they just get it off a big roll so it doesn't come with the dmc wrap around the skein but I've never quite trusted that I would get the right stuff and by the time you find out it would probably be too late so I've never tried them.

Thanks for the recommendation for the picture frames. I've thankfully stocked up on frames for all the big pics I was planning before baby arrived when my local framer warned me she was closing down but now I'm doing stitching for the baby too I've not got frames for any of hers. Shame their postage is so steep though. Would have to buy a few frames to make it worth while.

I fully understand about losing so much in a small space. And the annoying thing is it only ever turns up when you are looking for the next thing you lose:confused:

Hope you have a lovely break.

    Hello All

Great to see all the activity in the forum. The work is amazing.

Here is the latest update in the floral alphabet - finished S for sweet pea (which is my favourite flower).

Hope all is well in your part of the world. Snow is starting to disappear now. Not had anytime off work so going to relax today and do some stitching. Will go shopping later when hubby wakes up (he works nights).

    Kind wishes to all

    Good morning everyone,
Hope you all get time to do some stitching today. I'm babysitting for a neighbour tonight so will take mine with me.

Thanks Harley for your reply, I never realised you could get DMC in bigger 'bits', might order some when I've sorted out what I need for my next 2 or 3 projects, and when I've got some money next month! Will post if I do and let you all know what they're like.

Sweetcarer - That alphabet is looking fab, not that far to go now. Well done

    Happy Stitching

That's great Jude, I came across their website the other day, so it's good to know someones used it before. There's so many cross-stitches out there that don't fit usual sizes.
