Which site is the easiest to use please, any help will be much appreciated. Thanks :j
I had great problems with photobucket and use Picasa now, which works fine. Many others here use Imageshack, with no problems. Both are free to download and use.
I am still getting on with my Calendar Bears, but my HAE chart arrived today :j it's huge! How big is it stich-wise?
I want to get all the threads and stuff sorted, I am going abroad for 8 months from the end of June so am taking it with me. Lucky you! :)
It says how many skeins I need, but I assume that it based on using the recommended 25 count linen. However the Sewalong site said it could also be stitched on 18 count aida, which I think is more realistic. So how do I work out how many skeins I need for that?
You do realize that the picture will be even bigger with a lower count material :D!

For example: My HAE Astronomer is 525 x 350 stitches big (huge, I know!)

Using the recommended 25 count evenweave and stitching over 1 thread, the size would be 21 x 14 inches.

I am using 28 count evenweave and stitching over 2 threads, so it will be 37.5 x 25 inches. Using 14 count Aida would give the same size.

Using 18 count Aida, it would be 29.5 x 19.5 inches, bigger than the original size, but smaller than I am making it!!

Both Mrs M and I use the 28 count, but Louise uses 14 count Aida for her HAE designs. I am not sure what others do.

I must admit, sewing over two threads is much better than over one thread!!

I used this site to calculate the different sizes you get with different hole-counts. Hope this helps. I did not increase the amount of threads I ordered, so may need to do another order when I am much further on with it. Some colours wouldn't use up a whole skein at the original size, so there could well be enough lea-way in most of them - I am hoping!

I know you may have problems, as you will be away. Others, who have completed HAE designs already, will be able to give you more help with colour quantities.

Hope my ramblings have helped you a bit.

Good luck in deciding which material to use!

there is a reason for posting here rather than quilt thread :o umm daft questions but i have never used mertalic thread before do you use same as normal? and what is the best fool proof way of finding center of adia, as im allways worried i will muck this up so i dont normally (as you will know from my project hogwarts) just buy bigger fabric and start at top corner :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks for all the great comments re the Lions, i love them and still can't believe it was only £10.50. I found this frame on asda direct for £15, i thought it was quite a good deal but not sure of the quality. My lions are 42cm x 68cm with 2 inches of fabric all the way around. I think a 50cm x 70cm frame will be fine?? I am after a light wood frame to match the grass effect, so if anyone has seen any good deals let me know :)

Dorastar, my quilt stuff also arrived today, can't wait to get started :T

witchwoopiggy, i find the center by folding the fabric, not sure if its the right way, only other way i can think of is to count the squares. Never used metallic threads either, but i think they are just used the same way.

For those of you that might be interested, I'm friends with Celtic Rose Needlecraft on Facebook and Jac has just announced that the instant downloads are 50% off.

Not sure how long for though. If you remember, my Zebra, Tiger and Leopard eyes, that is where they came from... Really must get back to them as soon as I've done everthing for the DD.

I do the same as nmm. I fold the fabric lightly in half and then half again, then mark the centre with a pencil mark. If there are no stitches near the centre mark then I have to count squares to the first nearest stitch.....that's if I don't go wrong like I did on the UFO I now have stashed away :o

    awesome2.
I use photobucket for my pictures on this site. It's the only one I have ever used and now I know what I am doing I get on fine with it....all thanks to Louise for the help at the beginning :D

awesome2 - i use flickr, and have for a few years, before needing to post pics on forums that is... and i do love it. i upload using their tool and it's easy and quick. then i just look at my photostream and copy the image i want using the mouse then paste into the comment box here where i want it. simple. and no code for me to mess up! here's me: http://www.flickr.com/photos/23rdspiral/

i like flickr because as its aimed at photo sharing i can add my pics to groups on every subject under the sun, comment/recieve comments, and join team projects such as the hexagon quilt along i'm doing... and through that i'm swapping fabrics internationally and having a lovely time.:) i dont know if the other photo places do this sort of thing?

the only issue i have is a very recent one, is that i'm nearing having 200 pics and that's their limit on a free account. the older ones will still 'be there' but 'hidden' from my photostream, but will be seeable in any groups they are in. humm... perhaps i start a group just for my old pics?!;)

good luck with the method you choose -try a few and see what works for you!
