sorry to waffle but was after a bit of advice and wondering if anyone can help... I am doing a little cross stitch using a metallic gold thread (for a golden wedding card) and I am using it like a normal thread but it is a nightmare and keeps splitting - has anyone any experience of this and should I be doing something different??? Thanking you in advance xx (been looking at the last couple of pages and there is some gorgeous makes:T)
How are you threading the needle? Are you putting both strands through (loop method start)?
I would recommend putting one strand through, then 'catch' both the ends under other stitches when you start off your first stitch. That way your ends are secured and you shouldn't have a problem with them fraying/splitting.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Hi everyone,
Hope you all have a stitching weekend planned and are progressing well with your challenge. My Angel is coming along nicely, one of the wings is nearly half done and my challenge was to have them finished by the end of the month so I am well on track, in fact doing better than I expected.I am doing a little cross stitch using a metallic gold thread (for a golden wedding card) and I am using it like a normal thread but it is a nightmare and keeps splitting - has anyone any experience of this and should I be doing something different??? I am using metalics a lot on the design I am doing at the moment and have found 2 things that are helpful. The first is called Kreinik, it is a metallic thread but is 100x better than the normal stuff, it very rarely splits, my angel is the first time I have ever used it and I use 3 colours of that and one of dmc light effects or something and the light effects takes 4x longer due to snagging, kreinik just sews like a normal thread. The second thing if you cant change to kreinik is buy this:

Time for an update - got another section completed.
In all honesty I'm not so sure how I feel about this atm.....it's not as like the picture as my previous HAED was. I'm disappointed with the colours in the wings, they're not as blue as I feel they should be, plus you can hardly make out the strap on her dress.
I'm telling myself to stop looking at the original, am hoping the overall look of it will be good when it's finished and her face is in place.... and no one else will have seen the original lol
Anyway here it is:
I have started stitching my own border round it, just to stop it looking like it's been 'cut off' at the edges :-s
Here's the original picture:

Morning
I'm not updating this week as I seem to have done nothing! I'm back onto the confetti stitching and can't see the progress and to top it off, haven't done any stitching for 2 days as I was too tired after work
I may not get much done this weekend either as need to go shopping, housework and finish tidying up the garden, visit family as mums birthday tomorrow... wish I was rich and could employ someone to do all these jobs for me then I could stitch all weekend :rotfl:
Louise, I think your stitching is lovely but I can see what you mean about the blue of the wings compared to the picture. Still think she is gorgeous though!!
I'm still looking for a wedding sampler for my friends daughter, love the tatty teddy ones, but I know the backstitch is tedious so been looking for something else...has anyone done any of these before?

These three are the ones I like best so far. I realise there is a lot of backstitch on all of them but think it will be alot easier than the Tatty Teddy ones, but I'm not sure which one I should go for, the couple are in their early twenties so dont know if the samplers are too mature if you know what I mean...the bride to be has had a really bad time for two years and he has been her rock, they are mature beyond their years as a result but are the samplers taking it too far? Decisions, Decisions...
Well off to start my huge list of jobs, washer is about to finish and the longer I sit here the less chance of finding time to stitich! Have a productive day everyone x0 -
Looks lovely Lousie and I think your border is really nice too. Didn't get any stitching done last night cos was too tired to see straight so am going to try to fit in a couple of hours today - trying to persuade dh to take kids to the park so I can put feet up and stitchMortgage £119,533 going down slowly

Hi, sorry I disappeared last night - hubby hi-jacked the computer but Louise yes I was trying to do the loop method start - thanks for your advice - will have a go the other way. (Your stitching looks amazing). Thank you for your recommendations as well Bubbles will have a look into that.
Hope you dont mind if I lurk around.0 -

I'm 25 and got married nearly 2 years ago. If someone had mad me a sampler I'd have loved it. It's something to keep forever and it's a sign of your care for the couple that you would put that time into it.
Personally I like the middle one of your choices (with the flowers in front of the book) but you should choose whatever you think they will like best.
Ali.b. welcome to the thread. We are a friendly bunch and it's always nice to see new people. Please post a picture of your work, it doesn't matter if it's small because we're a nosy bunch and like to see it anyway!
I've gone back to work this week after nearly 8 weeks off so I've not done as much stitching as I would have liked. I don't think I'll be meeting my April challenge but hopefully I'll still have it al done by the end of May. We shall see how it goes.0 -

I personally like the first one most. Lots of similar colours, though. Might drive you nuts stitching it!
I have a feeling the Apache blessing one is one that my friend stitched twice. It looked fantastic.
Have you looked on the Black Sheep website? They have quite a few kits reduced on there. You might find something you love & get a bargain.Looks lovely Lousie and I think your border is really nice too. Hope you get to do some stitching today! No point trying to stitch when you're too tired as you're bound to make mistakes.
I've just had 2 of my stitching mags come through the letterbox, so I'm going to sit down with a coffee & have a read of them...:D
Oh, and I had an email from Pinn with the list of DMC I need to finish stitching the motorbike kit. I thought they were going to send me threads, but it doesn't matter as I should have the colours in my stash anyway.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27
