Thanks again for the advice. I did notice when I was just having a quick browse through the kits on ebay that there were some charts thrown in, so will need to make sure I dont get caught out with those. And charging £10 for three kits that came free with a magazine sounds a tad steep!

Are the magazines useful for a somewhat beginner or are they more suited to people who know what they are doing?

I'd say the magazines are suited to beginner/intermediate stitchers mostly.

Just bought myself a little frances lennon kit on ebay there it will be my uncles birthday prezzie when I get round to it :o

It's the one with the old guy bowling with the pipe here. My Uncle used to smoke a pipe years ago but I remember it fondly as I've always loved the smell of a pipe and his new love is bowls

clare1510, ebay is a great place to get kits, i know most ppl say beware of the chinese import kits but personally i don't see a problem with it. My African Lions is a chinese kit and it cost me £10.50 delivered, its huge too at 42cmx68cm :)

mummipig, looks great , let us know what your grandad thinks of it :) (if i remembered correctly it was for him)

MrsM, they look great framed, i'm looking for a frame for the lions, i'm thinking a light coloured wood will look nice :)

I used to do that all the time -I had to have them so tight that eventually over time they would weaken until "ping" and off they went :rotfl:the frames I got that *Louise* recomended are soooooooo much better :T
nmm -there are sooooo many frame profiles to choose from I spent ages trying to decide -so "good luck" :D and thats before you start picking mounts :rotfl:

Its great reading all your posts and seeing your pics :j . Im stitching a winnie the pooh kit at the min. its only small (was a free mag kit) and its the second picture for my pen pot. I have already done one pooh, so think a tigger to finish !

I am quite keen to join the challenge although mine is going to be a long term challenge if that is ok?

I started stitching a country companions kit over 10 years ago !!! :rotfl:This was for my OH. I can't remember what it is called but its a picture of a hedgehog holding a cricket bat behind his head and there is a caption at the bottom which says something like 25 and not out ? As I say, I started it over ten years ago so the stitching is very messy as its when I first started cross stitching. Thus I intend to restitch (I haven't done a huge amount) which does seem crazy but given the lovely tweeding effect, I know that by restitching, I can start afresh and work hard to keep the back very neat so that the back stitch can be done easily rather than over the mess that is the back of my work currently. I know that if I try to finish what I have started, I am going to get very fed up with it and it will end up back in the UFO box for another ten years :rotfl:I would like to have this kit finished by xmas 10 to give to my OH. he will be shocked if I mange it !

Project number 2 will be my friend wedding sampler. i will work this along side my country companions kit to avoid boredom along with small kits (which I will do on the bus/in my lunchbreak) as well as small cards ready for xmas.

Project number 3 will be a kit my friend bought me called I dont do mornings and features a cat on a pillow fast asleep (rather like my cat!)

I must say I really must stop spending time on a certain social website which has games. Ive been caught up these last few evenings faffing around with my virtual farm which means my cross stitch has taken a back seat. I don't know why I am so addicted to them as I love my cross stitch. It also doesn't make sense since is spend all day in front of a pc !

    Hello all,

I love all the pics :)

Bubbles - could you tell me how you made those cross stitch frames on the ribbon? I fancy making a couple for my niece!

If you pm me your email address I will send you the instructions and pattern if you like.

I used to hate metallics but I'm the same as you Squishy - I find the ones on the spool loads easier and nicer to work with. They are well worth the extra money.

I just discovered something called thread heaven which made metalics much easier to work with, would highly reccomend it.

Think I'm going to have to try those yankee candles...this thread must be the least MSE one on the forum :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Here is the site Ruth mentioned http://www.yankeedoodle.co.uk/x-cart/ The 'candles of the month' are a fantastic price for Yankee candles and postage is very good considering the weight of some of the candles.
I was looking at the april megapack but hubby said ''to spend £31 on candles is just ridiculous!''

I think I'll keep an eye on the site and buy a large jar (or 2 :D ) when they have a fragrance that I fancy in the candle of the month offer.

    Back on topic.....
Had a good day stitching, got all of the main x's done and the half stitches of the background. Then onto the dreaded french knots :o I watched the tutorial again and tried a couple and they came out great. After the first 2 though it all went to pot. Just couldn't get them right and the more I tried the worse it got. The fabric and surrounding stitches were starting to look like they had had enough so I decided to do a cross then add another line so that they look like this star *. They look good so I have a few more of them to do tomorrow then it's onto backstitching...then I'm done :T
Hopefully be done by Friday, if not will definately be done by Monday update.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

You're not the only one. I've got a virtual farm and I spend more time tending it than I do my real allotment! I also don't use the time for cross stitch, housework and neumerous other things that are infinitely more useful and productive than tending a load of virtual crops and animals! I couldn't even tell you why - there is no good reason!
