It seems a lot of you hate using metallic threads - do you use the ones that need separating like ordinary threads, or do you use the ones on the spool? I used to hate using the separating thread, then found the spooled ones (which I think have a touch of lycra in them) so they don't need to be split, and are a lot smoother to work with
They have saved my sanity many times!
I used to hate metallics but I'm the same as you Squishy - I find the ones on the spool loads easier and nicer to work with. They are well worth the extra money.0 -
Hi everyone,
not posted any updates recently, too busy stitching.
Got the supplies for my new project and spent 3 hours one day last week sorting threads and winding them onto bobbins. Been stitching like mad ever since, think it will take 18 months to do. Will post an update when I've completed one page, only 47 to do:eek::eek:.
Glad to see everyone's doing great with their updates, it's really motivating seeing everyone's work progressing so well.
MrsM - it was me who posted the link for express frames originally. Glad you agree with the quality of them, I'll certainly be using them again - very impressed.
Back to stitching now, them off to Stamford Bridge for the Chelsea match tonight with ds2 - free tickets so it would be rude not to!
Happy stitching

I'm browsing sewandso and finding too many nice things
Trying to find a nice wedding sampler (got married almost 2 years ago and not made one yet!) but hard to find one I like that is not too 'flowery' if you know what I mean?
Edit: ooh, I like this one for my MIL - wonder how hard it would be to do?

Hi Judellie -Thankyou so much for sharing that link... Im "chuffed to little mintballs with them" -Im allready pricing up for the next frames I need
on the metallics front I mainly use this stuff....petie treasure braid...
I got into using if with my celtic ladies and I wouldn't use anything else now -its not cheap but it is thicker, stronger and less bloomin tangly than the other stuff...and it comes in loads of colours :T
I think the cheapest I have seen it is about £2.50 a card...

To be honest I can't remember as I got it so long ago. I might be able to help you out though nudge, nudge, wink, wink!!
Lelc - it's looking fantastic. My fishes is sitting in the sewing box waiting for September to come. Though I might have to do some sewing after my next assignment.
This is the chart - http://www.sewandso.co.uk/cgi-bin/find/db.cgi?db=zoom&do=search_results&Prod_Code=10665&ww=1. I purchased mine for ebay for a lot less!
Everyone's work is fantastic.
Also, my future mother-in-law is into cross stitch and I'm going to do her a hamper for Christmas. Any ideas on what to put in it/

I love that kit, and it's a good price too for a large item. I might be tempted ........

Ebay is great for cross stitch bargains ! I am always * finding * stuff to buy / bid on :j even though I have enough kits to keep me going until the year dot :rotfl:
A warning though, make sure you read the description fully ! the item might appear a real bargain i.e. you might see a picture of that kit you are after but then find that its only the chart that you get. Also I have noticed recently someone selling 3 small kits that clearly came free with cross stitch publications for close to £10 plus postage
Mention of stuff coming from smoke free home is always good too.
and be warned also re the mags as sometimes these can be vastly overpriced ? (£8.50 odd) for something that is still available in the shops for half the price ?!
Thanks again for the advice. I did notice when I was just having a quick browse through the kits on ebay that there were some charts thrown in, so will need to make sure I dont get caught out with those. And charging £10 for three kits that came free with a magazine sounds a tad steep!
Are the magazines useful for a somewhat beginner or are they more suited to people who know what they are doing?0 -

When I have my pennies saved up I will buy frames for my completed project.0
