New challenge finish birth sampler by end of the month
No matter how much life knocks you down, it's your ability to get back up, brush yourself off and face your next set of challenges that makes you stronger0 -
Hi everyone,
My friend announced today that her daughter is getting married this September instead of next year!
I really want to do a wedding sampler for them as the last 2 years have been horrendous, thing is I can't choose one!
Have any of you ever seen a wedding sampler with puppies/dogs on rather than the normal teddies or cats? Just they have dogs so thought this would be more appropriate for them...
Otherwise I'm going to have to have a vote on which one I do!0 -
hello taz82 & claire1510, :wave:hope you like it here - it's the nicest place on MSE (though for some not the most 'MSE' place with all the tempting charts everyone else is doing!:D)
pm2326 - i have a 1970s charity shop book with lots of different people / motifs / pets in - the authors intention is for you to pick and choose and make up your own samplers. they are a little angular looking, mostly under 10 stitches high, like a traditional sampler, but you could perhaps use them to alter a design/make your own? i'm sure it's so old no one would mind if i scanned the dogs pages and emailed them to you...
:T Thanks Shelly - that was just the sort of thing i was looking for! the lettering might come out a little small than ideal, but then i'll have more room for boarders, and i wouldnt want to enlarge it and be wrong!
right, now the houseworks done and the MOT is booked (), i'm off to sit with a cup of tea and some graph paper! wish me luck!:coffee:Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. I used to do cross stitch years ago when my mum did it. I want to get back into it but dont really know the best way to start. Starter kits I find a bit to simple for me to do.
Does anyone know anywhere to get cheap kits anywhere? All the ones I see are really dear for what I can afford.
PS. Especially looking for fantasy fairy sort of thing for my OHs mums bday!
have you been on ebay? I find some good bargains there, full of cross stitch kits. Always check their feedback though before buying. Avoid the ones with negative feedback0 -
Welcome newbies - hope you will feel at home here, I know I have only been a member a few weeks and it seems like forever as everyone makes you feel so included.Bubbles, can you edit my challenge to just complete the lions by the end of the month  I failed miserably on my mini challenge :rotfl:
I have edited the challenge for you and it will show up on sunday. BTW, for everyone who keeps calling it my challenge, it was actually NMM's idea, I just offered to make it into a list. Dont wanna take credit for the idea.Had a castrophe after I posted last...my standing frame fell apart with my stitching still attached !!!
Have spend the last hour fixing it all back together again
Bubbles, I think you should perservere with the colours in the chart, as Louise says a lot of colours look out of place when you first start.. on mine when I started the sky there were odd colours i.e purples, oranges and bright reds and I convinced myself they were wrong, so much so that i covered the stitching up everytime i walked away to make a cuppa etc...its only now that i have finished that part and look at it from a distance rather than close up that I can see they all blend in well....hope that makes sense !
Your frame collapsing sounds like a nightmare, glad you got it sorted. It has taken me over an hour to read everyones posts since yesterday and write up to here as watching 2012 at the same time and on the edge of my seat. It took me a moment to realise your stand hadnt collapsed because of an earthquake! Can highly reccomend the film, but not if you have a weak heart! We have had to wait for my mum to go out for the night to watch it as she would keep screaming!MRSMCAWBER wrote: »Morning all
Hope everyone has had a good weekend ... there some more great work going on ....well done folks :T
I have been sat merrily sewing this weekend :jso here we have last
I got quite a bit done so Im a happy bunny.... and Im thrilled with how realistic she is looking :T-I think this is going to be my favourite finished piece....
I sat last night in bed (hubby was watching the end of the masters) so I took over the bed with my new patterns and made a list of all the threads the 4 charts needed, then condensed them into 1 list and now Im just finishing going through my file of colours so I can see what needs to be ordered..
To top this weekend -hubby was golfing and stuck €2 in the slot machine in the club house and won €140 ...and came home and gave me half -with instructions that "it was to be spent on *me* things and not just for general stuff" -so me thinks it might have to go towards threads :rotfl:
Wow you have got loads done this week, well done. Congrats to you and your husband for the winnings, I am never lucky at those things so gave up trying. I did buy a lottery scratchcard on saturday, well my mum bought it for me, and I won, get this £2! But as she paid it is £2 more than I had so still happy, the £40,000 top prize would have been better though.
As for my stitching, I finished the dress last night, I changed the colours for the top of the dress to metalic gold and red as I am going to do most of the wings in gold so it ties them in.
Anyway this was last week
and this is what I have done since
with a close up of the top, I still have the beading left to do but dont want to do it until I have finished the stitching as I think it will make things harder.
As for non stitching news I officially have bipolar/manic depression and am going to have this hole for the rest of my life. But now we know it can be treated and the highs and lows should become less severe. The way things have been for the last few years have been crazy, I have cleaned out 13 bin bags full of clothes I have bought and never worn and some even in a size 16 when I am a 8! I cant even remember buying most of the stuff and have done lots of other stuff I would never dream of. Now at least I know there was a reason. Anyway better go do some stitching before mum comes back!
Happy stitching everyone.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member No 2 :j

Funfair Princess - Glad everything arrived safely.
There are so many pages; just drop me a PM if I've missed anything, or if something doesn't make sense!
Bubbles - I was diagnosed with manic depression aged 14 (I'm now 30). Before we found the right levels of meds, I had a seriously bad shopping habit with no regard to the financial consequences - apparently this is quite a common thing! Hopefully you can move forward with your life now you know what's going on.Strange how so many of us here suffer or have have suffered with depression. Cross stitch is obviously a useful remedy!

Hiya, that was me, really i just wondered if anyone had converted a picture and how the end result turned out. Like did it look like the original image and how many colours to use, etc.
This was the end result:
http://fav.me/d29hxjz
I've converted this photo for a friend and I'm just waiting to see how the progress is going:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/19193662@N00/3957173533/
That's converted to 16count aida and will measure about 70cm by 46cm (sorry I don't do inches.) It's original size was about 90cm wide!
As far as conversion goes, it's reasonably straightforward and also has an option to view the work in 'mock-stitch' so you know what'll it'll look like in the end.
The software does Anchor and DMC threads and as far as I could make out with my first attempt, there wasn't much that wasn't available from sewandso when I needed to buy mine, though I had to convert some of the colours over to another shade when I couldn't find the one I wanted.
You can also tell it the type and count of the fabric you are using. It's also got different stitches for you, which is handy if you are creating your own work.
Let me know if there is anything else that you want to know.0 -
