    Hi all :j Happy 100

I haven't been here for ages so was suprised when I saw Spottybutterfly's pics - couldn't believe it when I saw the Bothy canvas as it's exactly the same design that one of the girls at the craft club was trying to give me last week, I didn't fancy working with tapestry so another friend took it but I think she's regretting it as she can't get on with painted canvas. Already had to unpick some of it. What she does like is the fact that the kit comes with extra charts for embroidery as well as crosss stitch, so she might ditch the canvas and xstitch it instead.

How are you getting on with it?

Its bloody horrible working with the wool provided on that canvas provided- the wool snags all the time (when i bought a dmc tapestry their wool was nice and smooth at that was a lot easier) and the canvas is too big/ stiff for me to use a hoop and I dont have a frame to work on.

Tell her just to use the chart and buy cross stitch threads. Another problem with the wool is how "stretchy" it is so its hard to get all stitches even in terms of how much they stick out from the canvas.

Any chance you could ask her what wool/ thread (as their is also some black and grey cross stitch type thread) corresponds with each backs-stitch line as I can't find the piece of instructions with that bit on, oh and how many strands for each colour of backstitch.

Oh also might be worth telling her the picture on the front of the pack is quite off with the light colours so if she's doing it as a cross stitch match the colours to the wool not the picture.

Hi, I am new to this thread but not to cross stitch. Just started stitching again now that I have time on my hands - am my Dh's carer so we spend a lot of time at home. I am loving having the chance to start all my crafts in earnest. Have been doing some oldish American pieces from a magazine I used to get, they are Amish style people and kitchen scenes. Now my Dd is due to deliver my first grandchild so I want to do Beatrix potter pictures or samplers but cannot afford shop prices. I have bid for a couple of charts on e bay that were cheap but has anyone seen any charts on the sites they go on.

Hi Ginnyknit :j nice to see you here.

Spottybutterfly, I've bookmarked your post so I can refer to it on Tuesday when I go to the craft club. When you asked about backstitch colours - do you mean on the cross stitch pattern or is there backstitch on the canvas you are working on?

 Hi Ginnyknit. Not sure if it's what you are after, but I saw some Beatrix Potter samplers in the black sheep sale the other day. I've put the link below to the £5 and under items, scroll down to near the bottom and there is a Peter Rabbit and a Jemima Puddleduck. Both kits are £4.99 each down from £15.25.

    Hope it helps!
:xmastree:What a splendid idea, this Christmas sounds fun. I fully endorse it, let's try it at once!:xmastree:
  • Welcome to the thread Ginnyknit , sorry I cant help on the Betrix Potter designs, but if you give it a couple of days so everyone can see your post someone might beable to direct you to a free chart or *wink, wink, nudge, nudge nudge* you a copy.

The back stitch isnt on the canvas just the chart but dont worry anymore, after posting I had a brain storm and tried 3 places I hadnt looked for it yet and it turned up (typically in the 3rd place I checked).

I'm just concerned as it appears from the sheet of instructions I found I wont be able to handwash it. Looks like i'm going to have to put up with feeling like its grubby, not that I can see any visable marks but the hours its took to stich (and to leave laying about :o ) I know its grubby.

I also found the receipt for it, I bought it a year ago for about £10, the cost of a new one now (they've stopped the design i'm stitiching) is nearly 3 times that.

I cant remember who it was, (and im too lazy to check a few pages of posts) but someone was asking Lelc where she got the ocean fish design she is stitching, i found it when browsing sewandso http://www.sewandso.co.uk/cgi-bin/find/db.cgi?db=zoom&uid=&Prod_Code=10665&ww=on&do=search_results its a nice expensive one.

I should really be stitching but instead ive spent 3 hours looking at kits online despite saying i wouldnt buy any more and would start buying kits and fabric and thread seperate.

Huge huge thank you sunflower76, my first copy of Cross Stitch Crazy just arrived, I'm so happy :j:j:j

humm, i'm seriously thinking of doing that. just want to figure out Quidco first.

 a nice sunny day, but i wasnt really in the mood. OH is off out and i enjoyed watching Bicentenial Man on tv... AND i finished my japanese doll!!!:D:D ok, so it's not a huge masterpiece, but it is the biggest Xstitch i've ever done! I'm pleased with being able to do the 4 fractionals and the backstitch, but am actually sad she's finished. is that odd? anyway, here she is:

i think i'll get a simple frame and put her up in the bedroom to remind myself i CAN actually follow a pattern (mostly! i extra stitch and 4 extra backstiches:o).

Well done! She looks really good. What's next on your list? ;)

I've sent hubby up to Tesco to get some shopping. Reminded him that I can't do any more washing until we get some more liquid/powder (whatever's on offer!) bought. Not that I care, but he might want some clean shirts to wear at work next week.
Been stitching my Golden Gate bridge all afternoon. I'll post a picture up a bit later. It's coming along, although the colours are a bit samey. Oranges and blues, mostly.

    Hi folks,

23rdsprial - well done, she looks really cute!!:T

Ginnyknit - welcome to the thread. I can't beat the bargains Simac posted about Beatrix potter, I hope you find something you like.

Been busy today - out at the garden centre and the park with the kids. Hubby is washing down the decking tonight and I'm going to help him paint that, the fence and the brickwork outside tomorrow *considers faking an illness lol*:D Then I get to sort my new plants, and have bought little bulbs and pots for my youngest two to plant their own.

Spent a while last night making a nappy cake: http://lou1705.blogspot.com/ so a bit behind on my stitching. Going to settle down in a bit once my lot are in bed and get cracking :j
