I also do the backstitch as I go along. I'm afraid leaving it all until the end would possibly put me off completing something. Plus it's nice to see the picture coming to life as you go.

I found the section I've just done a bit of a drag, I was really toiling at it, I'm glad I din't feel like this last month or I would be nowhere near finished.

Thing is I'm away next weekend and have a lot of work to do in preparation so won't be able to crack on and get it finished this week

Will still have it done well before the end of March though

She's here at last!
My HAED chart "Garnet" arrived today. I have had everything ready for the last week and now I can finally beging her. WAHHHHHHOOOOOO.
I am just copying a couple of the pages, will do more later but I really want to start her. So excited!:j:j

I'm with you on the backstitch. I once did al the crosses on a tatty ted picture in a week then it took me a year to do all the backstitch. After that I decided I didn't like cross stitch and didn't stitch at all for about 2 years. Fortunately I realised that it was the backstitch that I disliked so now I choose projects that don't have too much, and I keep on top of it a bit at a time.

Time for my update - Y is now finished. Nearly there, onto Z, signature box and wee dedication at bottom and I will be done. Found a frame that probably do in Ikea and I will do the framing myself - alot cheaper, also I don't like the idea of a framer gluing it - rather take the time and lace it myself.

LOL, hence the reason my current and next two projects have NO backstitch :rotfl:


Tbh it's not all that bad if it's a DMC design, which uses the holes, it's the Anchor ones (tatty ted, humphrey, f.friends etc) which split the fabric that bug me.

In my santa so far I've found 3 backstitches that split the fabric but it's not too bad as there's not many of those and it's on evenweve so it's easier to do anyway. I love the tatty ted designs but I'll never stitch another one because of the backstitch. I've found Lickle Ted to be almost as cute and much easier on the backstitch as there's less of it and it tends to use the holes.

I'm glad it's not just me who hates the backstitch, it's a theme that comes up every so often on here.

oh how i wish projects looked so good with out backstiching. I never understand why people like doing "proper" embroidery stuff but as the saying goes, each to their own.

Sweetcarer. I love love love your Floral Alphabet!! (as you know ) Also can't wait to see it framed, I bet the bright colours are going to look great.
It doesn't look like the same UFO that you first showed us when it was all dirty with rust marks!


As for my stitching this week...I have just done a bit of backstitch on the main Rose head.
Though I have been busy trying to design a couple of bookmarks for myself. I want to put the threads that came with the £shop kits to good use and not just let them sit and go to waste. Got a few small motifs marked on some graph paper so am hoping to get a couple stitched and then laminate them.....hopefully they will come out ok :rotfl:

Though I'm not sure how to cover the back of them and not make them too thick to go through the laminator. Might get some cheap white cotton material from Dunelm and loosely tack it to the back.....will have to think about that one.
