Maria, that is lovely. I'm sure your mum will be very pleased with it.

I always leave the backstitch until the end, then regret it. I really hate doing it, but it never occurred to me to do it as I go along, I figured it was liable to get pulled if I wasn't too careful.

I've bought some waste canvas to stitch a little motif onto a baby vest for my soon to be nephew, and whilst I'm at it I might do a little one for Kezia too. Any ideas how to use it. Instructions say that I should tack it to the fabric, but if I do that how do I find the holes without coming up in the wrong place through the vest material then searching for the hole. It'll be easy working front to back, I'm just worried about the stitches coming up from the back not going in the right place. Any suggestions or experience please?

Maria - that's beautiful. is that a bit of gingham ribbon or xstitch to look like gingham?

Thinking MSE, you could look in a charity shop for some cotton to back your project? an old napkin or something?

Thanks!! Why didn't I think of that? Tesco sell very cheap value handkerchiefs so I'll get some when next shopping and try them.

    Hi guys great progress :)

Maria, that sampler is lovely, your mother will love it.

Sweetcarer, almost done on the floral alphabet, it looks fab and you are so organised for your golden lady. Mine is on the card that came with the kit and shoved in a carrier bag, lol.

elliep, almost done on santa he will look great this christmas, i hope he has pride of place in your home.

Update time, not sure what is going on with me the last couple of weeks but it seems to be slow progress on the lions. I have made a start on the grass under the lioness, just wanted to have done more, grrrr :rotfl:

I wanted to say Thank You to everyone who replied to my message about my Grandma a few weeks ago. The funeral was last Monday and she had lots of gorgeous flowers, which she would've loved. I have come back home now, but tomorrow will be my first day 'alone'. I've been almost glued to my mum for the 3 weeks that I was in Gloucester, and my husband has been here all weekend (with the exception of a few hours this morning, when he had to go to hospital to check on his mum-it never rains, eh?...), so tomorrow I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I don't feel like talking or seeing anyone, so I'll probably be online a lot, distracting myself from real life. Or I could do something productive and get on with some stitching.
I stitched a small card for Mothers Day, which I managed to do whilst Mum was sleeping. It's a Mouseloft one of a robin and some snowdrops. Grandma loved snowdrops & we put some on the coffin when she was buried. Hope it's not going to upset mum, but I thought it would be nice to have Grandma included. The day after Mothers day would've been her 90th birthday. I will be in Brighton then, so plan to raise a glass to her. Don't really feel like going on holiday, but I know Grandma wouldn't have wanted me to cancel it. It's just 3 nights anyway.

I've caught up with all the posts and all your progress is amazing! I feel like I've been gone for months, not weeks. Hope to have some pictures to share myself soon.

Nice to see you back Ruth - been wondering how you have been faring. When my first husband died I put in a wee cross stitch for him. I also put in a few other bits a pieces - photos, my hair (used to complain it got everywhere as it is so long), little bits and peices. You will always have reminders but they are blessings showing she is still thinking of us. When I hear american pie on the radio I know first hubby is saying everything is all ok.

You have my kind wishes and look forward to seeing your work soon.

Good to have you back Ruth.

Why not spend the day engrossed in your stitching. It will be lovely to be productive and a good way to distract yourself from being on your own. Sadly I am at work (another KIT day) but I will be back on in the evening. I would love to hear about how you get on.

I think your mothers day card sounds lovely. Many years ago I bought an owl cross stitch to remember my nan by. It is still in the cupboard but I will do it one day. I always think of her whenever I see an owl. In the interim I have named my daughter after her which I hope would make her proud. That owl will be on my wall one day though, I'm sure.

Good to see you posting again, Ruth.

Everyone's stitching is looking great! :)

Who was it a little while ago that was posting about the Heritage Silhouettes range? I was going through my stash today and found a kit that I'd inherited, but it's not my thing.

    It's this one: http://www.sewandso.co.uk/cgi-bin/find/db.cgi?db=zoom&uid=&Prod_Code=2735&ww=on&do=search_results

It's not in the orginal packaging, but everything else is there. If anyone thinks they'd use it, just message me and I'll pop it in the post, as it's probably not a design I'd ever do.
