Spotty, those beavers are great, well done.
Shelly, great progress so far.
Here is the Mother's Day cross stitch for my mum's card, not mounted it yet but will do soon. It was my first attempt at french knots, i think they turned out ok, some better than others
No update on the lions this week, not done much at all so i will make more of an effort and update at the weekend.Cross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:0 -
I received my newest kit on saturday and after having a good look at it today, it says in the instructions (which I never used to read but have learnt my lesson
) something about they advise to rinse the red and dark blue colours under a cold running tap and allow to dry before using.
Has anyone ever bothered? There's also black thread so I would do that too if I rinsed the red and dark blue.
Its a Design Works kit if that makes any difference.
Also realised the fabric is too big for my frame so I won't be able to stitch how I am used to stitching. I'll have to turn the frame on it's side and stitch that way (like sweetcarer does, that to me is the wrong way round, I prefer to have the longest side going straight up :rotfl: ) and even then I'll have to fold over the edges an inch to get it to fit.
I'll have to see how I get on and hope for the best. I really don't want to buy a bigger frame because the chances of me doing big projects regularly isn't high:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

just an idea, but have you tried brass pins? i work in a museum and we use brass paperclips / pins - they don't rust so we can leave them in place for years without worrying about rust damage. 23rdspiral - your card will be gratefully received by the recipient, I would also go with fraying the edges. What are you planning on stitching next?
I started to ponder your question, and had a nice time looking through the 4 Xstitch mags i have (bought 2 last month, and 2 old ones from a charity shop last week - v.MSE). I began pondering cupcakes or a garden tools, or, or, or...
and then remembered i hadn't actually finished that house i'd started 2 tuesdays ago - i'd gotten afraid of the lone X apples! So i re-read over the tips i got from you lovely people, took a deep breath and after i wondered why i'd got so flustered about them!(I've misplaced my camera so this is a scan:)
It's a DMC Colour Variations kit - DMC say the thread will change colour every 5 stitches... and it did. They also say for a softer effect to just do / of a line then the \'s - so i did on the left hand wall. and i really dont like it - it's pale pink underneath but it just looks like i've only done the '\' bit. oh well. i'm only a beginner and it was nice to stitch and prove to myself i CAN follow a pattern for something!:rotfl:Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Yay @ getting it finished!!:j
I see what you mean about the left hand wall - when I use variegated thread I prefer to do a whole 'X' then move ono the next one. But it's all trial and error until you find the techniques that suit you best.

thanks, i think i agree with you about the whole 'X' but i'm glad i tried it the other way - just a little annoyed i didn't unpick it too!Ok, you have finished the house.....revert to my previous question...what are you planning for next?don't encourage me!! but i'm so glad you asked! it's like i've got permission to go and try another one!
i'm thinking a cupcake or two from a mag last month... but i'm going on holiday next week (eek!) and want to take one with me, at least for the flight. (must find my perscription sunglasses :cool2:). so pehaps the japanese doll kit from the front of the other mag - then i know i've got all i need with me.
:question:what do you seasoned Xstitchers do/take with you when going away?Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -

I'm glad you mentioned travel. I'm off to Florida in a few days time and don't know if I'm "allowed" to take a couple of cross stitch needles and my thread cutter (not scissors) onto the plane ? Would they be confiscated at security ?
Grateful for your advice/experiences.

Just checked - and I ordered it on the 11th Feb!! Flippin heck, glad I'm not in a rush for it!:rotfl:If it's not here in the next couple of days I am going to email them.
Louise, I don't know if you have been in touch with Jayne at Sewalong but I called her yesterday. She has lots of stuff stuck at customs at the moment. Due to the bad weather in the States there has been a backlog. She checked my order and as I only ordered it on the 19th she said it wouldn't be in that delivery but if you ordered yours on the 11th yours could well be. Hope you get it soon. x£2 savers club. They sound good - I would have the Japanese doll for the flight (since it's all together) and the cupcakes in my suitcase, so prepared for any eventuality lol.
Personally when I'm on holiday I also just take something small and simple, couple of free kits etc. The thought of taking a large project in my suitcase then it perhaps going missing would be so annoying!Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Thanks for that - I won't bug her just yet, I'm sure she has enough people asking about delayed stuff.
I'm not in any rush atm, I've got the last of my Lake to do, plus the silhouette.
Let me know when you get yours please, if mine hasn't arrived by then I will contact herCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
