When did FixOnline 5 start?
I switched to FixOnline 4 on 1st November 2009.
I just had to blink, and the online discount has jumped from 15.40% to 17.50%.

To the E.ON rep, you have a typo in the "More info" for FixOnline 5, under Product Benefits : it says 4, when it should be 5.
Cut and paste without checking, naughty , naughty.

I have worked out the £30 penalty is the savings I would make by switching, so I am stuck on 15.40% .

I presume E.ON will be introducing FixOnline 6, 7, 8 and 9, always with a discount step increase that is not worth switching for each time. Going for a tracker doesn't work, because E.ON is not decreasing the base rate. Waiting for the biggest discount means this winter is over already when that comes. The base rate from which FixOnline performs discount is fixed, so E.ON can withdraw FixOnlne altogether in April, and launch products with a lower variable base rate, which will rise again in September 2010. So I am stuck with 15.40% for this winter, and should switch to the final FixOnline 9 in April. But of course, E.ON knows this, and so they are going to withdraw FixOnline sometime in March, without telling anyone.

So in order to play safe, I need to switch to FixOnline 8 (~25.0% discount) in early March, missing out on 9.

I can confirm that this still hasn't been changed. I found this discussion when I searched online to see if anyone else had noticed.

When you click FixOnline 5, the benefits section talk about FixOnline 4.

The online discount does vary by region.

brewerdave, I'm based in Cheshire mate!

I switched to this deal yesterday as it gave me an increase from (I think) 4.6% online discount (was on EnergyOnline Extra Saver 13) to 16.2% which is pretty hefty.

Historically, I would have expected to pay a premium to fix (energy or BAE base rates), so perhaps this is an indication energy prices will go down in line with wholesale. However, after much googling for predictions yesterday, there are mixed views for 2010 with some expecting slight drops and some expecting slight increases, and the advice being just get the cheapest you can.

That said, I haven't even checked the main comparison sites, just saw this option on my online e.On account. I have a 10 day cooling of period so I think I will check it is the best deal in UK for me - but I think it is, as the previous deal, EnergyOnline Extra Saver 13, was the cheapest for me 6 months ago and this is 12% cheaper still!

steve237, thanks for that - I, too, have rechecked and for my region its still coming out as virtually the cheapest (bar FIRST: UTILITY which in theory might be ~ £25 pa cheaper)
So it appears all I have to do is run cables and pipes from Cheshire to South Wales to get the extra 3.8% discount!!

I'd be wary of switching for a potention saving of £25 pa, even with the possibility of cashback via quicdo or a switching site. Especially if, like me, you're about £100 owing to e.On due to the costs of heating over winter (before it evens itself out into the summer months) as you'd have to pay that back.

I think we're on a good deal mate!
