It makes sense for the company as it means less courier charges shipping full orders rather than part orders, generally happier customers (as they get the full order in one go), less admin and labour time etc etc etc. The only time they're a disadvantage is at times like this, but if you think about how many people ordered, and how many are recieving their items with no problems, its (at the risk of being shot down by some folk) generally fine
There is the ability on these systems to 'unlink' the items. Thats a manual process.
Thank you for taking the time to explain that. I can certainly appreciate that they save the extra costs of couriers, packages etc, but I do think that is a short sighted view by the company involved. It's not the first time it has happened with Marks. I, along with countless others, had the same issues a couple of years ago. Marks ended up giving people £25 online credit, which took money off both the items you bought and the postage. Surely this cost them more in the long run.
I have placed a lot of online orders in the sales, I had 7 parcels today aloneand Marks and Sparks is the only company to operate like this. Places like Amazon give you the option when you order to have your items sent as one parcel or individually when the items become available. Perhaps this is an option Marks could look into.
oh well, at the end of the day not receiving the order has saved me some money. I'm more gutted for my mum more than anything, as I ordered a couple of items that she wanted along with my own. Her items were among the ones that were still showing as in stock over 12 hours later. Unfortunately, on checking the website, everything I ordered is now out of stock.0 -
Once again M&S totally screw up the sales with a rubbish stock control system. So glad I kept out of it this year - saves on the disappointment when they turn out to be rubbish.
The missus ordered some stuff though - be interested to see if any of it turns up!You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
Do I increase my chances of recieing the items if I manualy select different dates for delivery of my item?
Have ordered a couple of suits and have broken the order down so that each item is dispatched on a different day.
Or does that just increase the chances of some of the items not being in stock when it comes to the dispatch day?0 -
I've had mixed results:
Two orders are dispatched
One order is delayed, which happened to be the first sale order I made within about 10 mins of the sale going live (I imagine this will be cancelled at some point)
One order is being shipped to my local store (I also have little faith this will arrive).
It's all a bit of a potluck system with M&S.
I usually get a offered a £5 voucher as compensation when things don't turn up (but they rarely send the voucher!).:p0 -
My order was placed on Christmas day morning and was supposed to arrive today, just had an email from M&S to say it has been delayed and will now arrive between 6 - 10th January.
I am now not sur if it is going to turn up and am now torn as some of the order is wrapping paper, tags and crackers for next year, do I wait or get it elswhere?0 -

If you see it for the same price or less, get it elsewhere, I'd say.
You can't rely on getting an order fulfilled by M&S, in my experience.0 -
4 orders placed before 1am Xmas morning are all on delay, apart from 2 items that are out of stock and have been cancelled0

I ordered yesterday morning a pair of sale boots and they have been dispatched! I paid for normal delivery which was estimated as 7th january!
Will make up for my other 2 orders I placed 3 weeks before xmas being cancelled 2 days ago I suppose!!0 -
I ordered late on xmas eve and was expecting delivery today, woke up to 2 emails from them today, first one says everything is on delay and new expected date is 10th January .... second email says everything has been despatched
So I'm hopeful that is the correct one! Their system gets more barmy every time
