Got the Free Range Chicken (SEL £2.53/kg, scanned at £3.17/kg), pork mince(SEL £1.79, charged £1.99) and ANOTHER Genisis Platinum Collection (stickered £8.97, scanned at £12.97) tonight! R&R absolutely no probs whatsoever. Lovely CS lady explained the situation about full refund and retaining the product to an obvious 'newbie' like me  . I of course put on my best incredulous expression look :D This is a real buzz. Bring on some more.... :money:

Clasics, what is the best thing to 'say' with food items, when its a weight issue? For instance, I saw some chicken pieces SEL price 6.49kg but priced at 8.12kg but had no idea what to do/how to go about this. Obviously I find it easier with books and cd's with stickers. Anyone? Any help would be welcome? Thanks.

Only my 3rd R&R so I'm by no means an expert, but here's what I do. Always go out into the car park (I'm paranoid not to look like I'm a professional R&R'er :D ), make a point of looking at the receipt, then go straight back into the store and say to CS:

'I think I've been overcharged on this chicken/whatever'. Let them ask in what way, then say something like 'I'm sure the charge per KG said £2.53 on the shelf but this pack says £3.17/ kg. I'm really sorry if I'm wrong but I'm usually quite good at remembering figures'. Something like that, keep it light and friendly, also say something like 'I hope I'm not going mad here' . They will then usually go to the shelf or send someone to check. You could always follow them (DON'T ask if you can cos they may say no!), just follow them muttering summat like 'I hope I'm right or I'll be so embarrassed' :D Works for me...

  • Hi,

Just recently started R&Ring and had a few successes with the pavlovas + just checking my receipt and finding being overcharged on reduced stuff.

Thought I found my first meat R&R yesterday, spotted HL Lemon Sole Fillets @ 11.19/kilo on SEL, but pack price /kilo was higher.

Bought shopping & and fish scanned at higher price, off to CS services and explained to the lady, I'd been expecting them to scan at lower price as price/kilo on shelf was lower than the pack (my receipt only gave the pack price and not the kilo price btw). She trundled off and was away for ages and said that they were priced correctly and she had spoken to 'fish man' and he explained that each pack is priced individually. I said that I understood that it is priced individually, as each pack is a different weight, but it shouldn't be priced at different /kilo prices.... She said, yes this is what the fish man said, they price each piece of fish individually and the prices can be different.

I then said, well why is there a label on the shelf saying a lower price? She said she didn't know but the price on the pack is the price you pay. Pointed out that this is misleading and she just said, the pack is priced correctly.

Had to give up at this point as had 'the man' in tow and he wanted his tea!

What should I do now.. can I go back to the store and try again (fish is in freezer now thou!), should i write to tesco head office, what should i say?? I'm sure it can't be right that they just 'make up' the price for each pack!

    Thanks for you help!

You got told wrong. The price per kg on the SEL should match the price per kg on the pack. A chat with the duty manager (with your reciept and maybe the label from the pack) should sort it out quickly enough.

Very optimistic of you constantine! Must admit, I've had lots of successes arguing this point on the meat - but IME when they start to quibble about the price clearly being displayed on the pack, backed up by some nonsensical argument about the SELS only being a "guideline - not a strict price" (yes, really!), then it's unlikely that you're going to get r&r.
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

Depends who you get and how you explain it I guess. I'll be duty manager for the day when I get in to work - I would give r & r in those circumstances with no hesitation (and then get the whole fish fixture checked :D )

Edit - actually, the csd staff in my store would sort it anyway, informing the duty manager so they can fix the issue. I have no doubt there are stores that dlo not give the best of service...but there are others that do.

The advise still stands - first thing I would suggest is talk to the duty manager (rather than the "fish man" Is it the top half or bottom half thats fishy? :D )

Wowww, i cant believe this thread?? I shop at tescos all the time and never pay much attention to any mistakes they may make - will soon change my ways
    !!
What is the reaction of the CS when you continually R&R?? Seen a post where someone got banned? Is this normal?
And do you always have to go through self scan??

Cant wait to visit tescos on my lunch tom:j

    Cheers

:D No, don't go through self-scan with possible R&Rs. It could be argued by a jobsworth CS person that you scanned the item and saw the overprice then, and had the opportunity to reject it at the till (in which case no R&R).

Go to a young cashier, always best (and best for scanning money-off coupons against your shopping). If you have say, a book with a lower price label on it, turn it face-down on the conveyor belt and chances are they won't notice the different price.

Oh yes, and when you go to CS just say, 'I think I may have been overcharged on this item', smile sweetly and act pleased/surprised if they offer a no-quibble freebie. If they offer just the difference in price be ready to point to the massive blue refund policy poster behind them.

Finally, don't know what you others think but I never call it 'R&R' in front of CS staff. IMHO it would look like ye know too much.......... :rotfl:
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The price per kg displayed on the SEL has to be the same as the price per kg charged on the pack. If the per kg price on the pack is higher than the per kg price shown on the SEL then this is CLEALY an overcharge. IME, there are normally CORRECTLY priced products mied in with these overcharges' (certainly the free range chickens had properly priced packs alongside the wrong ones) so that would be a way of showing the overprice - the price per kg should be the same as SEL on EVERY pack.

Big sign up at the Tesco I went to today stating they take Sainsburys money off vouchers? Something about £12 off £50 etc etc? Anyone throw any light on these? How do you get them, for instance?
