I'm sorry if this is dense... do you take each item to the self scanner in store and check each item before buying? Or write down the prices as you pick items you already need and check your receipts later?

Big sign up at the Tesco I went to today stating they take Sainsburys money off vouchers? Something about £12 off £50 etc etc? Anyone throw any light on these? How do you get them, for instance?

They are generally part of mail outs that supermarkets run in order to attract custom......

Some stores have little scanning machine-type-thingies (someone will know there proper titles!) dotted around the store. If you spot a possible mis-price, you can check on those to see what they'll scan at. There's a thread somewhere that lists store and scanner locations - I usually look out for columns that go right to the ceiling, that's where they tend to be placed.

I always pay at a manned checkout (so no suggestion of me 'agreeing' the price at a self-scan till). You can ask staff there to do a price-check on something, then reject or accept it (again, risky, because you are technically agreeing to pay that price).

Or, while you're shopping if you spot an empty checkout you can ask for a price-check and then pay at a different till.

You should always check your receipt as you may have been overcharged on something you weren't looking for.

Re the price per kg discussion - I don't even bother to try these in my local store because they won't have it. They say the pack is correct (even though there might be big special offer SELs saying its been reduced per kg when it isn't). I complained to Trading Standards who told them to take down the "price per kg is only a guidleline signs" and told them they were wrong, but they still insist on this policy.

I don't push it, because the CS staff in there are generally very friendly and I get loads of other stuff R&R'd, so don't push it for the sake of the odd bit of meat. I play the long game! I do still go for the price per pack meat (eg mince) and thats been refunded without a problem.

Did find a mispriced whole leg of lamb in this store once - so I sent the OH in and he had a fight with CS till he got the refund (he loves lamb, so he stood his ground!), but they don't know him cos he generally doesn't R&R.

I do go to other stores and get meat wrongly priced per kg, and have never had a problem.

PS Ooooh look, I seem to have gained another star!!
  • I might go back and try argue the whole price per kilo thing... not sure if I should though as tesco is 5 mins from my house and shop there all the time so don't want to cause too much bother and get refused other R&Rs.

I don't have a car but can sometimes shop in another tesco if 'the man' takes me.

Is there any other way.. could I write and complain??

I've had 4 free range chickens in various stores and only one CS bod queried the price per kg thingy. I very politely (I think your attitude is VERY important, btw!) said it has to be an overprice as you are charging me £3.17/kg as opposed to SEL price of £2.53. If you had charged me £2.53/kg I wouldn't have been charged £6.32 for it, the price would be lower. No problem after that, I can't understand why this is any different to a 'straight' misprice like the Pork Mince SEL of £1.79 per pack and pack price of £1.99. Both clear overcharges, and the result at CS should be the same (i.e. full R&R).
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!
  • Well - i went to tesco metro at lunch and thanks to you guys i done my first R&R. Spotted 4 pack of Aeros at 2 for £1.80 - however end date being 27/6 - I was charged £4.40? for 4 packs instead of £3.60

Went to CS who after checking ticket(and removing it) promptly gave me my £4.40, plus my 16 aero bars!!!:j Bang goes my diet!!

thank you all - And look forward to hearing about all your 'dealz'

    Cheers

I called HO with a complaint after refused r&r on Nescafe, they called the store then called me back to confirm I had been overcharged - received a £10 giftcard in the post the following week.

    I think the number I used was 0800 505555 (open mon-sat 9-6).

flaming cheek! Got accused of abusing the system today when I bought 4 packs of Minute Steak today. Kept my piece when he then pointed at the sign and said he would R&R me. Best to buy other stuff as he picked up on that, too! Makes me more determined than ever to look for more....

I got a refund tonight on 2 DS games. They asked me for my clubcard. My daughter had just taken it to the car so he then asked me for my full name and address and somehow keyed it into till.Looked same old till to me......plus he also wrote down my name and address as always.....no other store does!
I'm a bit worried about this.....is this normal practise?
