I've heard that the query whether the price is right does occassionally come up on the self scan. I have also heard it mentioned that you "accept" the price anyway as its in front of you, plain as a pike-staff! Personally I always go to a manned till (so I can use vouchers too), keep an eye on the display without appearing obvious, then if anything comes up correct you can just make up an excuse and ask them to remove it without appearing too obvious. Of course you do run the risk of an eagle eyed cashier spotting the incorrect price compared to the label, but in all my R & R-ings (and there's been quite a lot!) I've only had that happen once. She had to call for a superviser to override the till, so I just said I hadn't got time to wait and would leave it! On balance, I would go to a manned till every time.

In this instance R&R certainly wouldnt apply....the till has asked if you accept the price shown and you have agreed to it....how can you then claim an overcharge?

That's my point - if you're after an R&R go to a manned till

With regards to all of these posts that point out that the SEL price is different to the scan price how do all these people find out these mistakes, surely they don't take all of these items individually to a scan point or is there another way??
    Thanks

You are not getting my point I know it would not be ring and reserve if I have accepted the price,my question was has anyone else ever been asked this question at a self scan.
I have always used these since I started this about a year ago, so that no eagle eyed cashier spots the correct price and today was the 1st time I had been asked this question by the till and I am obviously worried that this will curtail my R&Ring greatly.

So I shall ask again has anyone ever been asked, is this the correct price for the item purchased at a self scan till, I use quite a few differant stores and self serve tills and this is the 1st time I have been asked.

I was in the Meadows, Camberley branch at just after midnight and noticed that the Best Before on the SEL was the day just before the recently past midnight, is it possible to claim an R + R for this?

I notice that nobody has replied to this and I imagine this is because people aren't sure what you mean.

As far as I know, the Best Before date is only ever on the product itself and not the SEL (Shelf Edge Label). In any case, if something has gone beyond its Best Before date, this does not entitle you to an R&R, though you would presumably be able to return the item for a refund.

If you mean that the Offer Ends date on SEL was the day just before the recently past midnight, then for sure you can claim R&R if you are charged a higher price than the lowest price displayed. Of course, if it is just past midnight, the offer may still register on the tills and you would not be able to get an R&R if this were the case.

Have a look at the 2 tesco threads on MSE. Dude just posted an explanation of all the various ways to spot a misprice or potential misprice.
  • Guys can I ask if you can get R&R's after 10pm at the 24hour stores? The main CS desk closes 10pm. Who do you go to for an R&R? If yes, then is it in your opinions is it best to R&R at busy times or at 3am?

I've had R+R at 2am but found it easier at key trading times. There isn't a guarantee that somone will be able to process an R+R after 10pm usually.
