I simply asked a staff member who was walking around checking prices with a hand held scanner if she was sure the price was correct - as I had paid. a lot less last week She picked up one of the boxes, scanned it and said 'its definetly wrong, I'll get the label changed in a minute' and she took the label away having repeated that the items would certainly scan at the lower price.
This game is easy enough without needing to cheat. The people who have had lots of stuff free have done it when they were genuinely overcharged, over a lot of visits over a period of time.
It enters the realms of social engineering to scan one and claim R+R on another, and you should expect to get a ban if you get caught. Not worth it for a £4 box of washing powder IMO.0 -
I concur 100%.I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0

Yes, speed camera database which allows me to travel between stores knowing where any speed traps are. I know all the local stores and the quickest ways between them but not the new locations of the speed cameras all the time.
Ohh and the person getting the SEL changed to a lower price by getting a tesco employee to check the price and replace the SEL with the lower price what a great idea sorry spa2k but you must admit it is a good way of ensuring an r+r then buy the box that does scan at the higher price. I just hope you dont get caught doing it.0 -
Clasics wrote:ALWAYS accompany CS round store. Don't ask as that gives them the chance to say no. I got a real arsey CS girl tonight who didn't like me following her to the offending SEL(s!) and made her feelings very clear with her facial contortions. What to do? Risk a facial contortion but a full R&R or a smile and a refusal? It's a no-brainer to me...
I must agree. First time I ever tried an R&R I carefully checked SEL was word for word what the product was. I took the item to a self scanner, did a bit more shoping around the store, went back and DOUBLE CHECKED the SEL.
I then went and paid for my shopping. Went to cs with overcharged item, cs1 went off to check, cs2 stood chatting to me. Seemed to be gone ages, considering I had told them EXACTLY where to look. cs1 came back saying price was correct, but I had been looking at wrong SEL, which referred to a completely diff item. Went back myself to check and SELs had been 'shuffled around. Incorrect SEL with exact wording no longer to be seen.
I have learnt my lesson.
If the overprice is based on a SEL, I use a 'passing' member of staff to confirm that the receipt for the item I have just bought it higher than the SEL price. They have ended up taking me to cs themselves, to tell them I have been overcharged:D
Must admit I prefer overcharge where the product has a lower priced sticker - eg Egypt book. Then there is no arguement. But these tend to be thin on the ground.
Although I could not go as far as tbw with the ecover, I think the point Psa2k is missing is that most of us have been 'tricked' ( for want of a better word) out of bona fide R&R on overcharges by the tactics of cs and managers. Until 6 months ago I never even knew about R&R, and although I have been overcharged numerous times over the yrs I have never been offered it by cs.
Equally I have never received the £2 gift card that apparently Asda should offer customers when they are overcharged. So who is being the more dishonest ?, and is it any wonder we actually have to have a 'strategy' when we go shopping in Tescos !!
There are a few people who are never seem to be satisfied with things I would see as a bargin. Many yrs ago I saw a man routing thru a display of clearance items in Safeway. Things which had been £5 and £10 each, reduced to 10p, 20p and 50p. He was pealing a 50p sticker off something, and replacing it with a 10p one !!
I can still visualise him doing it, and remember my feeling of disbelief. I don't know how desperate he was, I don't know why he felt the need to do it. Even if it was pure greed, he ran the risk of being caught, and all the repercusions that brings !! - not long since the post re "just seen someone stopped" for putting blank paper in the self serve till instead on coupons
I would like to believe I would never be dishonest - sneaky maybe, after all most of my R&R's are using info from this site. But can all Tesco cs claim to be acting 'honestly' all the time ?0 -
I'd just like to add that I didn't 'scan one and then buy another '! I just asked a staff member if they would scan a box to check the price for me - she picked it up off the shelf herself and scanned it. I don't like to use the self scanners as I feel its a bit iffy to go to the check out having clearly established that the product WILL certainly be overcharged - if the price on the pack is different to the price on the SEL then there is always an element of doubt that the product MIGHT just scan at the lower price (It happened to me with a foil lamb joint last week which was labelled £4.? but scanned at the lower SEL price )Ok, so after she had done that I admit I did pick up the 'pink' boxes feeling fairly sure they'd scan at a higher price but I did'nt know for absolute certain - I thought the uncertainty was part of the 'game'.
Also, the staff member said she would change the SEL as soon as she'd finished what she was doing - so if I'd waited a bit longer the SEL would have been lower anyway. I'm sorry if I've got up anyones nose over this but I still can't see that what I've done is a hanging offence !ELITE 5:2

Little_John wrote:Classics, which GPS system do you use?
I have tomtom on my PDA and I have a set of POI for tesco stores, I just ask it to navigate to a POI, ask for a tesco and it tells me all the nearest stores to meso no matter where I am in the country I can find a tesco.
I use a Medion with Navigon software so I had to originally pay 30 euros for the POI software. Then the Medion crashed and I lost all the data including the POI Warner stuff so decided I didn't want to pay another 30 euros! Suffice to say I'm getting a techno wizz to load me Tom Tom software on my Medion this weekend and hopefully getting the relevant free POIs installed. BTW, before anyone asks  the TomTom software is perfectly legal and paid for....I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0 -
Tried the Ecover one. Was told, and I really couldn't believe this, that the label said for 1.2KG, and I had picked up 1.2 grams. I said 1200grams is not 1.2g. I was told 'its a totally different weight'0
