For new readers:

For clarification SEL stands for Shelf Edge Label and R and R stands for Refund and Retain.

the Tesco policy on signs instore is :-

"And if things don't add up ~ In the unlikely event you are charged a higher price than on the shelf or the product we will refund your money and you can keep the product"

Compare the price per kilo on the pack with the shelf edge label price per kilo and where there is a difference the lowest price must be charged.

Thanks to !!!!!! Dastardly for providing the following information from the DTI website which summarises consumer rights in relation to misleading price indications:

Q1. I was charged a different price for an item at the till to the one that was shown on the shelf, what are my rights?

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader.

With regards to the misprice on the Nescafe 300g jars.
These have an SEL for £4.xx but scan at £5.xx.

If CS say that the barcodes don't match, then look for another label that mentions the prices at ASDA and Sainsburys - as this label has no barcode on it.

Its interesting they changed the camera / printer bundle price back to £149 already. I wonder if anyone who is in the know would know if that was a regularly scheduled promo coming through, or just quick action from HO in trying to reduce the amount of camera/printers they had to R + R ?
The cynic in me says that someone in HO saw it posted here on Monday / Tuesday and put a quick price drop through to cover everyone.... but the realist in me thinks they know that they are selling the seperate items for a total of £189 so it didnt make sense to have that bundle as a higher price as no one will buy it.
  • Tesco Extra Bar Hill is really crud at the moment for R+R, tried to get items mentioned on here last night, but all the price tags had been whipped off the specified Nintendo games and all meat seemed to be correctly priced! Grr

    I've been Money Tipped!
I spotted a 20% off Finest label today...can't believe these things still haven't been removed! It was on Darjeeling tea though, so I guess not too many sold, and even less people recording the price of it.

Can I calrify I'm understanding this correctly.

If I saw a TV in Tesco that had a shelf label of 50 quid but I was charged 60 quid at the checkout, then I could go to customer services and I would be refunded the 60 quid and get to keep the TV.

That can't be right can it?

Yes, that's right. Refund and Retain is a poicy unique to Tesco. If you are overcharged you get a refund and retain the product.
    Can I help?

    Hey Dude,

Just to let you know that the DTI link is dead.

Is anybody else getting sick of being followed in Tosco?

After the incident with the Store Defective being a bit too obvious, they've reverted to technology and now follow me with the cameras.

I swear, I'm gonna cause their little motors to burn out the way they track me around the store.

However, it certainly helps me find the blind spots.

Am thinking of getting some t-shirts printed saying things like, "watch the cameras, the REALLY like me" with "ask me why" printed on the back.

It's VERY offputting and I really can't be arsed looking in the store any more - better to travel an equaly distance in oppostite direction and use a different branch.

What's really galling though is that they are using me to be able to find mis-priced products that should never be mis-priced in the first place.
