Some people may be missing out on the Ecover as the SEL says £4. ..? However, the ones with the pink TMF label are often mixed in with the plainer boxes and the plainer boxes will scan at £3....? I picked up one of the plain boxes today and got one of the shop floor staff to scan it saying 'This has gone up a lot since last week, can you just check its the right price please?' Having then been re-assured that the powder is supposed to all be £3....? and that it will scan at the lower price at the till I trotted off to the till with 3 boxes (which did have the pink label on ). Of course they scanned at the higher price and I was then able to go to CS a little annoyed that the staff had given me duff info! They hummed and ha'd a bit before deciding that the items were exactly the same, said they had a different bar code but they didn't expect the customer to look at that and gave me a refund with a smile.

Its not my fault if they've mixed the old and new stock up.

So don't be put off if the SEL is the higher price - so long as you can get a staff member to confirm that they should scan at the lower price - if you see what I mean.

    Totally wrong....

You ask a member of staff for the price of one product and then knowingly purchase a different one. You yourself admitted that the packaging is different as is the barcode. And then you claim a refund.

If the advertised price is the higher one then how can you possibly have been overcharged.....yet another post that shows total and utter greed.

If the lower price is advertised then R&R away, but to unwittingly draw a member of staff, who probably wont be price integrity trained, into what can only be classed as a snidey little game is completely out of order.

People complain that Tesco try "underhanded tactics" or "rip off at every opportunity" and then do exactly the same.

mY LOCAL tESCO has a great way of avoiding R&R on meats.

When the price is reduced (eg for a promo) they leave the old SEL in place and don't put up the new ones.

Tonight approx 40% of meats had a higher SEL than the pack.
I guess it stops R&R's but won't be helping their meat sales!

I don't see that what I did is either wrong or snidey. I simply asked a staff member who was walking around checking prices with a hand held scanner if she was sure the price was correct - as I had paid. a lot less last week She picked up one of the boxes, scanned it and said 'its definetly wrong, I'll get the label changed in a minute' and she took the label away having repeated that the items would certainly scan at the lower price.

I didn't scan any of the boxes myself and , although I had a pretty good idea that the boxes with the pink label on would scan at a higher price, I had no way to be certain so I took a gamble that they would. And they did so I was lucky. The CS came and scanned several boxes - some were the higher price, some the lower price and she agreed it was incorrect and misleading and that the prices for the new and old stock should have been labelled separately.

So how is that greedy, snidey or anything else unpleasant ? It certainly isn't in the same class as people on here who boast about £2000 plus R & R in a matter of months, multiple refunds on phones, microwaves, dvd's etc.

Some of you on this board are too quick to jump down others throats and are unnecessarily critcal and downright rude when there really is no need for it. The only reason I posted that message was because I'm new, I've been able to benefit from others helpful posts and I just thought my comment might help somebody.

I'll keep my mouth shut in future !

Yes to this please Dude cos i'm sick of being followed round my local store. i wouldn't care but i only ever go there once a week, have only had about 5 R&R's, each one only worth around £10-£15 so its not as if i'm being greedy. they've taken all the SELs off the meat and the deli counter, so if you've got any tips you could pass onto me, that'd be great. Don't have a car so can't go to other stores....the next nearest one is 12miles away

I tried two tescos today but both had put ALL the Ecover under the £4.?? SEL. There was no £3.?? SEL So I had no comeback at all and didnt bother trying.

    Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!
Me and OH in Cumbernauld tonight looking at Digi cameras, picked one up as it had 10% off SEL showing £71.XX along with other general purchases.
After packing, Usual, checked through reciept and BINGO was charged full price of £79.97, went back to shelf and double checked we picked up correct camera and sure enough we did.....

Heading towards CS Asst. and we thought another miserable CS Asst. (do any of them smile?)
told her we had been OC.
As she walked away OH nudged and said security is following her, so i looked down Isle and sure enough he was, she came back and said sorry it is the correct price showing me a new SEL , i said no way, we double checked it after we saw the MP, she said sorry but this is the price of the camera which you paid!
I went back down and she had removed the SEL and replaced it showing new SEL !!!!!!

This is the same store that i had a purchased an MP3 from last month which i was also denied an R + R for incorrect SEL!!!!

    Emmmm what Next?

Can you ask for video coverage? or is this just another case of breech of contract by Tesco?

    Stenny,
The way to avoid this is to follow the CS staff to the shelf. Another good technique is to grab any member of staff and show them the misprice. Usually they will come with you to the CS desk and explain the problem for you!

tbw - Don't take it so hard! The person who criticised you was Spa2k, who as a Tesco employee is probably justified to think that way.

ALWAYS accompany CS round store. Don't ask as that gives them the chance to say no. I got a real arsey CS girl tonight who didn't like me following her to the offending SEL(s!) and made her feelings very clear with her facial contortions. What to do? Risk a facial contortion but a full R&R or a smile and a refusal? It's a no-brainer to me...
