    The Dude's Saturday Top Tip:

If you are in Tescos - pick up virtually any Tesco branded product...

....on the back of it you will find the Tesco Freephone HQ number...

Unfortunately, due to the massive amounts of piracy and people buying CD's, copying them and then returning them (in no way am i implicating you in this process) most retailers no longer give refunds on CD's, DVD's or Software. As far as I am aware there is no way around this process.

Tescos own staff must be leading the way in this then coz the CDs, DVDs & Games which arrive in store sealed are always found "unsealed" - why is this exactly, eh? It's a disgusting practice in my opinion with no good reason that I can see for it also given that security tags are applied to many products via a security case or even just a tag attached directly to dvds - especially as Tesco never seem to accept back an unsealed product themselves!

PS "(in no way am i implicating you in this process)" either.

Not everything comes in sealed unfortunatly - I would say about 50% does not. Would make life a lot easier if they did all come sealed.

The refund rules apply to staff in exactly the same way. To suggest that Tesco staff unseal product in order to pirate it is a little bizarre.

Indeed - I'm a bit of a film buff - DVDs from High Street retailers are usually sealed - but it's not unusual to buy films that are not wrapped.

I usually check the disc after purchase for any signs of scratches - but it doesn't mean that someone from Smiths/Virgin/HMV has watched the film before me..............

Actually, the large majority of CDs aren't sealed for 'environmental' reasons. DVDs are normally sealed. However, the exception is Games, most of these come into store sealed, but they are opened in some stores as despite the security cases, the actual discs/carts aren't kept in the cases.

But Tesco staff do not copy titles before they are sold

Purely out of interest - why empty a game box and then stick it in a security box that'll result in a Tesco SWAT Team being deployed when the alarm goes off up front?

I've seen this (empty game boxes, not SWAT Teams) in some stores, but it's not the norm.........

Because believe it or not, the empty boxes get stolen as well. Particularry on the popular titles like GTA or Hitman. And although the store still has the disc, the loss is the same as if the whole item was nicked as it is unsellable without the box.

So taking the disc out lessens the risk of theft, putting the empty case in a safer reduces the risk further. Pain in the !!!!!! for all concerned.
