I ask the Moderator to allow this special note of thanks to spa2k, who has explained, simply and lucidly, how to find foreign language accents on my keyboard.
As so many msers see his views here(and those of ben500, equally strongly expressed, if so often in direct opposition)I would like all who read this to know of this off-topic kindness from spa2k.
I have thanked both for posts on this thread before, but wanted this particular unsolicited Tesco 'extra' noted.

Just back from Tesco Knocknagoney having tried in vain to get a R&R on pork chops (SEL 5.99) charged 7.99 per kilo. Similarly Sirloin Steak (SEL 11.87 per kilo) charged 12.87 per kilo. Stood my ground for 20 mins with Customer Services and then a manager who turned down the due R&R - Reason given - you paid the correct price on the label - If the meat wasnt displaying a price then you could have got R&R... Grrr..Is there any way I can claim through Tesco's HO re this...not even given discount?

The same thing happened to me with the mince - SEL 1.93 per pack and packs priced at at 2.24.

CS insisted I knew the price when I picked it up was 2.24. She would only give difference in the 2 prices. I wasn't happy. Then she tried to say wrong label as 1 word difference in product description - label said beef not steak.

don't take no for an answer!! The Head Office will make it quite clear to the store that an extra penny means a FULL refund and that's that. Call them on 0800 505555
  • A quick question from a newbie. After a mix up by the checkout staff I was charged the amount twice on my debit card. I have been told to wait 5 days to ensure this charge is not cancelled at which point they will refund the overcharge. I asked if I qualify for R&R, the CS siad no that's for individual items. But have I technically been overcharged for all items in my £80 shop?

no, you haven't been overcharged, it's a cashier mistake

I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I think if it doesn't have the "2 for £3" banner on it, then it probably won't scan as part of the offer but make sure it is the same size as the bannered products and that it says it on the SEL.
I was going to go back in tomorrow and get some more but the 12 yr old manager went off to clear the freezer so I may not have much hope; unless there are some unbannered other products that he forgot to remove.

As the barcode reader just reads the barcode I can't see how the sticker makes a difference. If it's printed on the pack it could be they use a different barcode for the product but not for something stickered as the'd have to sticker over all the barcodes.

More likely the barcodes are linked (or not) in the computer and the fact it's stickered is irrelevent other than promoting the offer to the customer.

    Dudes,

Meat can sometimes be a tricky one - sometimes CS Staff genuinely can't see the R&R - I once had to talk a fairly bright CS chap through how the SEL and meat sticker were wrong in a step-by-step process - with an emphasis on the price per kg.

But some CS Staff know exactly what the score is and will squirm around and try and not honour the Price Promise.

Personally I tend to only go for meat when there is a big wrongly priced SEL - white or yellow - that is promoting the offer and price per kg - the recent Minute Steak is a good example.

I then advise CS Staff of the mis-price and during my walk to the offending aisle explain how it was the "excellent price on the big shelf sign" that had caught my eye.

I find that this approach causes less problems - but that said I have never had a R&R on meat refused - including the ones with normal SELs - but I have had to really take a firm stand from time-to-time.

It's not a sticker, it's a banner printed on the pack and they do have a different barcode to the non-bannered products but the same product is in the offer as it is same weight and product, they just haven't put those barcodes of non-bannered products in the offer. It's just a good way to spot which ones will invalidate the offer and ultimately get you your R&R.

The Tesco I went to at the weekend hadn't taken the Beefsteak £5.99/kg SEL down - however, they HAD turned it round so it couldn't be read. Clever. I also noticed a worrying thing - there were lots of prepacked stuff with NO prices marked on them. Just the SEL to tell you how much the product should be. Seemed to be most of the bacon was like this?? What gives?
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!
