    Hi :)

The above posts pretty much cover it - but there are more options here if you need them:-

  • Simple Solution, as sold in Pets At Home, will deal with smells and stains from wee, poo, vomit, blood, etc. It's worth every penny!

Once the potty training stage is over, clean the carpet(s) using Bissell's Pet Odour and Stain Removal Forumula (or similar).

This approach might not be old-style, but it works.

Hi all I'm hoping someone can pass on some advice on a money saving way to sort out my stinky lounge carpet.
Last night the kids invited out 2 elderly pugs into the lounge, against my orders!!!! They stay in the kitchen with me for the most part as they cannot be trusted as far as weeing, anything remotely soft is fair game to tinkle on!
Anyway this morning I came down to the most horrendous fishy urine smell which enraged me(slight ocd I think), Anyway after narrowing the smell down to almost a corner of the room I doused the patch and surrounding area with bcarb of soda and left for about 2 hours whilst I nipped to B*Q to rent a "rug doctor" the carpets needed freshening up as hadnt been done in a year and a half so was overdue.. Anyway £35.00 later I have done the whole living room and hall (main traffic area) the smell has not shifted in the slightest and is making me feel queezy for lack of a better word, the dogs had their anal glands done 2 months ago so are probably due soon(pugs suffer with this).
Can anyone suggest something that is going to blast not mask this smell, I am not in anyway flush moneywise, however I will NOT be able to keep the carpet with this stench and don't have the funds yet for my laminate project.
    Thanks ahead of time.

  • Do you still have the rug doctor? I'd put some carpet shampoo mixed with water directly into where you think the smell is and then do the carpet again. Open up all the windows in the house and put some pots/plates of bicarb in the corners of the room, or some coffee granuals in some old tights.

I'd also get some frebreeze, or some essential oils if you have any in a bit of vodka and spray around any soft furnishings you have like curtains and sofas. Leave the windows open all over the house to get a good airing, and light some smelly candles if you have any, or more OS - bake something so the house fills with another aroma. I'm sure by the time the carpet dries you wont smell it any more, so just try masking it in the meantime.
  • You can use carpet cleaner or shampoo.

Try biological washing powder the enzymes in it should break down the smell x

I did buy some of their rug doctor carpet detergent, however, I may as well of used just hottish water for all the good that it did.

I saw on how clean is your house, that they recommend lifting the carpet, cutting the wet underlay, scrubbing the floorboard and replacing the underlay with new (after you cleaned the top level carpet)
