:T:T:T to lovely people offering practical advice and sympathy with OP at having to clean own classroom.
I've read so many teacher bashing threads on here (don't get me on term time holidays) that reading this has been great.
My advice would be to try a few of the excellent ideas and then tell the head in September so she can take more permanent action.
Doesn't take long does it!!!0 -
Definitely Vinegar - may smell for 2 or 3 days, but that will disappear... and at a pound or less for a bottle of white vinegar (I'm assuming that the carpet isn't dark enough to take malt vinegar), I bet it's much cheaper than a product made for the purpose (and from what I hear, much more reliable... and won't irritate allergies even if the smell hasn't gone yet). When I've had to tackle a dried patch of cat pee (male - smelly!!) I've just let the vinegar dry on it and left it at that (although you can always go back a few days later and clean it further if you really want.0

A slight change of subject ---
my husband is suffering from a neuroloigical disease; apart from mobility problems he also has dementia and is incontinent.
Accidents involving urine in the carpet is one of my weekly problems, but this week he wee'd on his chair. (He usually wears pads but sometimes he takes them off himself and removes the protective cover from his chair, and then sits on it!)
It has a thick (6 inches) removable cushion with a foam stuffing.
I tried holding it under the tap and letting water with soap run through it for quite some time, but after it dried it still stank. I don't want to throw out the whole chair! Is there anything I can do?0 -

cover the foam with plastic (a bin bag or similar) before you put it in the cover, have you got some old towels which you can them fold to make a layer ontop of the covered foam to soak any 'liquid' if your OH has another accident. Then the foam will be protected and you won't have to wash it.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500 -

Carpet cleaner with biological washing powder dissolved in the water. Then do it again with plain water to get the detergent out of the carpet. Or rip the carpet out it'll be in the underlay as well. Do that when she's fully trained.:footie:

After what Happy MJ said..and for the meantime when the carpet is dry - sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda, leave over night and hoover in the morning.
Decorative bowls with bicarb dotted around where little'un can't reach also help to eradicate whiffs.
Give them a stir every few days and replace about once a month.0
