I saw on how clean is your house, that they recommend lifting the carpet, cutting the wet underlay, scrubbing the floorboard and replacing the underlay with new (after you cleaned the top level carpet)
I dont have underlay, its felt attatched to underneath, have just poured on some boilogical wash powder disolved in hot water.... fingers crossed, also mum is going to grab me some distilled white vinegar from Mr T's, thanks for your help will keep you updated x

Get yourself down to the £shop and spend a quid on a tub of this.........Neutradol carpet powder. Really effective, believe me!

Sprinkle it on thickly, work it in with a hand brush and leave overnight, then hoover away. Save yourself, time, effort and mess!

Just make sure the carpet's bone dry when you use it!

EDIT to add, if you do use this, and are able to access underneath by lifting the corner of the carpet, then sprinkle it on the underside too. I know it works, as we bought a repo property and their dogs had been regularly neglected and locked in the conservatory. Over a period of time, the urine had soaked through the carpets and underlay and into the wooden floorboards. Threw the carpets away, but the smell from the wooden floor boards was so bad, especially when the sun was on the conservatory, that the electrician refused to work in there! I tried everything that has been mentioned to no avail. One overnight treatment of Neutradol removed every vestige of odour from the wooden floorboards and there has been no trace of the smell ever since, even when the room gets warm. Nothing short of miraculous stuff on urine smells at least!
  • Hi all I have just started potty training with my dd but I am struggling to get rid of the smell when she has weed on the floor. I have blotted first and then used zoflora and then sprinkled bicarb on but the smell still seems to linger. Has anyone got any advice?

    Thanks

  • Wash the area carefully with biological washing detergent, being careful not to push the urine all the way into the underlay if it's on carpet. (Can you detect the voice of experience here?!) Dry as well as you can then sprinkle with bicarb and leave to dry before hoovering up. Someone on here mentioned doing it with cornflour instead of bicarb. If it's still whiffy use lots more bicarb!

Good luck with the potty- I'm sure she'll have the hang of it in no time.

I always use vinegar, mixed with some lemon juice sprayed on, and blotted off.

Also use vinegar in the washer to rid any smells if my kids wet themselves whilst toilet training
